Any IJ Player?

I'm a dumbass but I'm trying to get over it. I can do whichever patch 26? 27? is involved all by myself, if it is a non-stock map I may require some guidance. I really just want to play. I do know to check the pm light at the top of the screen now, I apologize again Chris R. Willing for Scen 1 or 2. Never considered the 'free' IJ start before but..., I've seen some house rules. I think LRB bombing ports in '42 is perfectly acceptable; but ain't that strategic bombing? However. I will strictly abide by any adopted.
Anyone?

What is a free IJ start?
Dont you want to wait for the last patch?

historical start off? Either 1 or 2. As to the patch, it's not that big a deal to me. I like the game. I just want to play.

Not sure now and just looked but didn't see it. In non-historical I though IJ had flexibility in set hexes with some units having a movement bonus to represent pre-game movement(?) I never played non-historical.

In non-historical the Japanese forces start in the same hexes but can freely plot first turn movement to locations other than the historic ones. For example, using the Kido Butai to strike Manila instead of Pearl Harbor.

Must be the the "magic move" task forces you are talking about.
Have been looking for good house rules myself on their use, based on what was historically possible.

There you are. It's what I was thinking of, but couldn't find in manual. Thanks for chatting guys. I'm so embarrassed. I had a game lining up with ChrisR, but I hadn't learned to check the PM light. First time asked for a game here. Cheers!

I hadn't thought about it. 'Non-historical'. Isn't there something for the Allies? Can't they also at least move their carriers even with surprise on?

Would that be a surprise anymore?
Usually the Japanese player is restricted by house rule to go after the US CVs in turn 1 and not allowed unrealistic movements, for example Mersing, Hawaii on turn 1.
Often the Japanese player is restricted to one port strike, dont know about this as surprise was historically achieved in the Philippines and Malaya also.

Well, that's one house rule then. At least for a non-historical start. Most of them I've noted appear aimed at 'gamey' tactics, but I find myself asking what's gamey.
I guess 4 engine bombers at 100 feet vs shipping although I believe I have read at least one reference to that actually happening... I don't know. Like I say, I'm just looking to play. I don't feel like either player should be straight jacketed.
As IJ I view an earliest possible landing at Mersing as a must; it's just too devastating to ignore.
I also see house rules about paying PP to cross national borders. What? for who? Surely not using Indian army units in Burma? Thai troops in Burma?
The 'no strategic bombing until X'. I suppose IJ can do nasty things early against Chinese factories...
Perhaps my exposure has just been too limited, maybe I'm just a rube.

Mersing in turn 2 is fine, but it was impossible to gain a surprise by diverting a landing there.
If there is no PP cost then Japan can start moving everything out of Manchuria, I agree that Thai, Indian and Chinese forces in Burma are not part of the issue but historical.
I dont know what the issue with strategic bombing in China is, it would be historical.
4 engine rule might be game engine related, or not, if you can really take out CVs in one strike I might surrender the game if that worked.

Totally familiar and down with IJ paying to free out Kwantung Army units. The way the house rules is brought up made me think there must be more to it.

Usually in non historical start the allies can plot moves for any existing TF but not create new ones or add ships to existing one. But it is allowed to split exiating TF

I have an almost ready opening, but I dont know if it s compatible with the final patch or 4 engine bombers on low naval.
