SSX Mini subs - how game builds them

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Guys how does the mini sub get built in game - If I make a new one will the game start just building if after the start date?

How many can it build, and can that be influenced in the editor?

Can more PT boats / others be produced than those listed in the game, as it seems to be a similar function?

Any insight welcome.

SSX, PT, MGB and barges are built like all ships. the only differences is how you get them into the game. I believe this has to do with their size and range. Basically the designers cut out the traval between where they are buit and their deployment area.

Midget subs and MSW are replaced. See section 16.1.1. new manual.

So, barges (LB's) and mini-subs (SSX) are indeed built as other ships, BUT they do NOT show in the "Ship Availability" screen. Thus you are not able to adjust the builds ... they happen whether you want them or no. Not sure of the reason why it was decided not to show them, but it has been this way since day 1 and was never changed. Both of these are limited to the IJ, so only IJ players ever deal with this. Most IJ players consider these an NSY "suck" and would prefer to NOT build them, but ....

Their absence in the screen means in the game you cannot see how many are available nor how many are yet to be built. When built, they go into an invisible pool. You "launch" them by expending supply at a port, and can do this until none are available.

However, they do show in the Tracker ship build queue and you see the pools in the Tracker ships display.

You may not be able to control if they are built but you do control when and they do appear as available on the available ship screen at the bottom of that scrren. All you do is determine where you whan them and create them form any port with available supply >10K, plus you can create them from any cargo TF with enough supply. Myself I'm always scratching around for somewhere to use barges but for the rest I have no problems.
