Coastal Defense suggestion

I would like to suggest to transform Coastal Defense into something more generic. Let's call it Fortification.

My idea would be to allow player to build a line of fortifications during the game.
Not the Maginot line or the Siegfried line but something lighter.

Things like the Stalin line, Molotov line, K-W line, the Panther-Wotan line, the defensive belts around Moscow and Kursk. And, of course, keep the role of Fortification for Coastal Defense.

As such, the new Fortification could be placed everywhere except in urban terrain.

And, as soon as an hex containing a Fortification is captured, the Fortification is removed / destroyed. The enemy can't use it anymore.

What do you think?

I think some of that generic fortification is supposed to be represented by entrenchment, but that would be good as long as it wasn't to cheap and didn't make it to difficult maybe boost defense value by 1 or half?

I would say the current value and bonus is a good start.

I agree. Building an effective level 3 of entrenchment as a capital works would be a good option.

In fact, to finish my answer in this thread:

I still have this idea behind.

In fact, my idea is not to go to level 3 of entrenchment. It is simpler.

Today, we have three levels of entrenchment. None, level 1 and level 2. It is taking one turn for an unit, not moving, to go from level 0:

And, another turn, not moving, to go from level 1:

What if this Fortification would allow an unit in its hex, not moving for one turn only, to go from level 0:

directly to level 2:

Like this, you can build a defensive line and units retreating on the Fortification line would be entrenched one turn faster.

What do you think of this?

Good idea but changing this would be difficult as is. At the moment I can't add anything else either to the game.

Sorry to intrude, but I popped this into the WP wishlist thread a while ago;

Ability to build Fortified Lines/areas (sorry if previously mentioned). Built very roughly on same time/PP cost of coastal defences. If possible, less benefit than longstanding fortifications like Maginot etc. Therefore, two levels of fortification in the game."

So really the ability to build something like the Gustav Line etc over a couple of months maybe. Probably best for WP2 if not doable now.

Excellent idea, indeed. For sure to include in WP2

Remove the placement restriction of the current coastal fortification. Call it a fortified position and give it a new icon when placed on the map. Isn't that basically it?

Couldn't that be done in current WP?

Funny, in the editor you can place coastal defenses anywhere :D

There aren't as many restrictions in the editor.

Adding what you want at the moment is a huge issue. Not only for coding but for game balance. With anything simple for a human to solve it can be incredibly complex to code without bugs.

Alvaro is right. It may impact game balance. What if German or Russian player put fortifications everywhere on the map? This is perhaps not the time. Let's do it timely and carefully with WP2.

Pretty much.
