Any general winning major battles is usually overrated, in any game.
Designer always want to reproduce history.

That's why people like Rydz-Śmigły, Gamelin or Lord Gort are never overrated.

While the rating #s look scary the benefit is not that huge. If I remember it is a +1% , -1% advantage for each 1 point difference. Tenacity can compensate for it. Some lower general with lots of men and a high tenacity against a smaller unit with a good general can create more casualties that it kills the smaller unit by ratio lowering the overall advantage of the commander rating.

Nah Manstein was amazing, and so were many other german generals that aren't represented such as Balck if anything he should be better!

Leading the German Army in WW2 was so simple a corporal could do it.

By the time of WW2 Generals at the Army or Group level were merely administrators dependent upon their staff. Eisenhower- more politician than soldier. Patton and MacArthur were both better troop leaders.

When anyone mentions Manstein or I see him in a documentary or represented in a game I often think of this:-

"When it became obvious that Hitler was not going to appoint him to a new post, Manstein bought an estate in East Pomerania in October 1944, but he was soon forced to abandon it when Soviet forces overran the area."

It makes me wonder just great a general he actually was if he was buying land in eastern Pomerania in October 1944.

Would he not have minded having Stalin as landlord or did he think the Soviets would be happy to let him keep his estate after their victory?

Or even worse perhaps he still believed in a German victory.

You can be good at one thing and an bad at another.

I have a friend who is in real estate. He knows everything about real estate. He works on excel sheets to valuate properties he wants to buy, fix, and resell. Runs all the numbers and makes sure he is making a certain profit. He is ruthlessly efficient at it.

Many months ago he told me he was buying a Tesla Model Y for $60,000 to save on gas.

I said buy a used car for 1/3rd the price.

He said gas is going to get to $10 a gallon *panic, panic*

So I worked the math out for him showing he he is needlessly spending $20,000 more between cost to buy and cost to own compared to buying a new gas car. The used car difference was even greater. He still bought the car ranting about saving gas. A few months later the Model Y dropped to $40,000. Now it is about break even assuming you drive 12,000 miles a year compared to a similar new gas car.

Buying a 2-3 year old car is your best value for your money.

How he can be that numerically detailed at real estate and think buying a $60,000 EV to save on gas without doing the math still has me scratching my head.

So you see, people can be good at one thing and bad at another.

Bravo! This is just a great example, my applause!! It’s the same as saving money for a new laptop, buying beer in aluminum cans, then handing over the metal to a collection point and using the proceeds to buy electronics)))

Depending on where you live, finding a charging station ranges between difficult to next to impossible. Oh sure you can spend even more upfront to have a charger in the garage, but myself I would be unable to sleep at night with the extremely toxic intense fire risk. Then of course most of the USA is either too hot or too cold over half the year for good battery life.

My Manstein is always killed in the first turn!!!
