Entire navy trapped behind mines that suddenly appear. STUPID.

Just sayin'.

Now they will be bombed to death. Sigh.

Yes...I have done that in the past...NOW I never bother the German navy in that area....I suggest they move over near the Soviets...they can use their ports in 41.

If you landing a unit on the mine beach, you will be able to cross it and escape with the fleets.

You could suicide a division in Denmark...then get them out...but it is likely a weather issue now...so won't be till next year and by then...it may be too late.

Forgot there are other mines so you can't get to Russia either...

Minefield control is a huge issue in WarPlan.

In reality, "control" can never change sides

True...but they could be swept...

Maybe see what the future holds.

perhaps rather than being an absolute barrier, a minefield should constitute a naval attack of some appropriate strength level.

We tried all sorts of things. This was the right solution for the situation.

Make then damage units? Germany can never take Oslo as the UK would say who cares about damage I got enough ships.

Leave it open? Germany can never take Oslo.

The minefield is there also to make sure the Allies just don't descend down on Denmark and the German North coast in late 1944 without Oslo in their hands and invade Germany from the North. which was not feasible back then. It gives motivation to invade Norway as well for the Axis. Is it worth it? I don't think so.

To put things in perspective of how dangerous is it moving the UK fleet there........

Repulse and Prince of Wales were sunk by 88 aircraft in an area they shouldn't be in that is fairly large in 1941.

Here we have roughly 1500 planes represented in a narrow straight 1/6th the size of the South China Sea where spotting isn't an issue. That force can obliterate a much large navy.

Not justifying the situation. I know it sucks. But many other solutions were tried over the years.

The only way to fix it would be to have 1 way mines for a single turn...

Honestly the UK should NEVER be there. Their navy would have been sunk if they did. The Axis had to much air at this time and they would never have risked their navy that close to Germany.

I suppose the mines could be placed in 1940 regardless of the declaration of war...then the Axis would just wait for that situation and attack Norway. The UK could still be caught if they went in to that area.

Players would complain they didn't know. But yes the RN should never be sailing in there

And there is no efficient way to make those 1 way mines.

Without going into how mines are codified in Warplan (which is really not easy), a solution could be to move the ships blocked by the appearance of this minefield. As when Poland is shared between Germany and Russia, the German units in the Russian part are moved to a friendly zone. Similarly, when France capitulates, the British units in Syria are moved to Palestine. Here, we are talking about sea hexagons, therefore without a priori control. But the allied ships (British or French) would have to be moved on the other side of the minefield. I am not saying that this would be easy to program, but it could be a solution.

An experienced player will know that this minefield will "appear" when Norway falls. He will therefore not engage his fleet to avoid it being blocked. But the first time you experience the "magical" appearance of this minefield, not only is it annoying, but the game is almost won by the Axis since the British can no longer use their naval superiority.

That might work. I have to think about the implications and all situations for it.
