Yugoslavia on the side of Axis in 1940

Latest patch, I accept a challenge from a returning player but I am elsewhere.
First time I notice this. Yugoslavia air unit was in Germany so I check. Yugoslavia is now Axis and colored like Italy.
I did not see anything in the report logs.
How is that possible?

something similar happened to me once
the opposing player had gone in and turned on diplomacy without telling me, then influenced Yugo to join the axis
when i told him i thought that was kind of unfair, he quit the game.

Yea, your player turned it on and pounded them into joining. I regret enabling diplomacy in WP. It just doesn't belong. It isn't HOI.

Don't regret, you know what to do for the next one.
Yes this is quite unfair if you are not aware. All right, I have turn on Diplomacy as well. Perhaps it is too late and it won't be taken into account.

But honestly, I don't care. I am playing for playing not to absolutely win.
Right now I am the Soviets in WITE2 against the AI (challenging level). And I am losing badly. Such a blast!!!!

I thought I was the only one who played more to enjoy the game than to win!

Ah excellent, I laugh so much. I have activated Diplomacy option such as my opponent.
Guess what, like Trump, I press the button Intimidate Spain as USA.
And Spain is now Allies. One click, hop!

Then, after several clicks, from UK, France, USSR, .. Romania was 50% Axis status, it is down to 42% Axis status.
Finland down to 9%
Sweden down to 33%
I will screw up this game.

Hello, I am the supposed bad guy here but let me clarify some things :
Most of my previous games were "diplomacy on" so when I created this one, I did not pay attention and did not change the settings, diplomacy was "on" by default. Nothing sneaky so please, don't draw hasty conclusions.
Then I started to try to influence Yougoslavia very early in the game, with little to no success, but at this point you should have noticed it in the report log so I assume you knew diplomacy was on and could act accordingly. Once again, nothing sneaky.
Last, getting Yougoslavia with diplomacy is quite standard as it starts with a large axis influence at the beginning of the game (I learned it the hard way as you can guess).
Spain is a different story : it starts with 35% axis and is quite a challenge to move close to join either side and I would say, impossible for the allies to get Spain in one single turn. Well, I was wrong on that point.
When I read the report you posted (thank you, Btw), I see you failed a bully attempt, spent most of your influence points towards Sweden and Romania... and still get Spain on the USA side as a result in one single turn ! That's quite unexpected to say the least.
I would love to read Alvaro's explanation on this outcome.
Anyway, if you want to start all over without diplomacy, that's fine by me. If you want to continue like that, let's try. I am going to DOW Spain (after running over Vichy) and I have no idea if this will trigger USA. If yes, that would be a game ending event otherwise that could be a fun game.

to my recollection, DOW on spain has no impact on US entry. only aggression vs UK impacts USA entry(and PP i think)
i'm actually jealous of you guys. i really like non conventional WP outcomes, so what you guys are looking at is very different, and i think perhaps lots of fun!
PS I'm OFTEN wrong on things in WP, so please don't hold it against me if this turns out inaccurate

I have had this issue with diplomacy being on and not noticing after and update.
I have not once ever used it. It completely breaks the game.
Maybe it can be disabled completely in another update.

I don't say you are a bad guy. At the beginning, I was just wondering how Yugoslavia can act like this. Initially I was asking myself if it was not a bug with the last update like you with Spain.
And in fact for Spain, it was not a single turn. It was a single command. I start by pressing Intimitade and just with this single command Spain goes USA whereas indeed it was on Axis side.
Alvaro won't change this at this stage. Warplan is under MCO. Diplomacy is on now. Let's see. But I agree if you are DOW Spain and USA goes at war, the game is over. That's why I laugh. Nothing sneaky as you say. This is a game.

I am still puzzled by what just did happen in Spain.
You just made a failed attempt to bully Spain and you got Spain in your side ? That sounds crazy.
If I read the turn report you posted, it says :
USA attempts to politically bully Spain
Relation between the two countries deteriorate...
18% status shift (in red)
That just looks like a backfired bully attempts, how the outcome could be "Spain has joined the Allies" ?

Yes that's what happens. It says failed and hop it was on US side. Did not understood as well.

Nobody ever uses diplomacy so unlike the rest of the game diplo has never been tweaked or adjusted.
So it’s basically pre beta stage
You guys are in the Wild West!!!

Spain was invaded. No US intervention, repeat, no US intervention. Spain did not last for long.
A good bug, Spanish fleet was immobilized even on top of German units. But, it is back to the US, waiting for now.
Vichy North Africa completely invaded.
Gibraltar taken.
Portugal taken.
Greece taken.
Egypt is quiet.
Barbarossa did start in April 1941.
This will not end well.
