Mac and Linux Support

I do not support Mac/Linux version of WarPlan. But there are plenty of programs that will run it on these platforms. I am not familiar with either OS. But this was posted a while ago. Apparently crossover supports both which is based on WINE

### MAC

from: Franciscus

With Official release of Crossover 19.01, I am happy to report that WarPlan works flawlessly on my iMac 27 2019 running Catalina, without Windows.

First, I should note that I have absolutely no financial interest on Crossover, I just love and support this software. Crossover is a paid application, based on WINE, with great support, that allows easy use of Windows-only software on Mac (or Linux), using WINE, without Windows, but with minimum hassle involved. Codeweavers (the makers of Crossover) are the main supporters of the continuing development of WINE.
This is not a virtual machine, and no Windows version is needed.

The crown of glory of Crossover was achieved last year, with the release of version 19, that allows the running of almost all 32 bit windows programs in a 64 bit-only OS (Catalina)

I use Crossover, and most of my games run fine on Mac, without Windows. Strategic Command, WITE, DC: Barbarossa, FOG2 and Empires, JTS games, and many more. And now WarPlan.

Crossover has a great feature, named crossties. Basically it is a pre-made "bottle" that allows a quick and easy installation. A crosstie is already created for Warplan

So, without further ado, if you want to play WarPlan on your Mac, you just have to:

- install Crossover (14-day free trial; after, you will have to buy a license)
- open Crossover and click "Install a Windows Application"
- type WarPlan and select it from the list.
- a premade "windows 7 64 bit" bottle with CoreFonts installed will be automatically created for you
- click Continue
- click to select the installer exe that you must of course download from Matrix. Have your SN available, as usually.
- if a warning window appears, just click Cancel (OSx security is a bit paranoid)
- Let the install process proceed, do not bother to install .Net.
- Enjoy

Turning "on" high resolution mode in the bottle settings permits to change resolution at will, just like a native windows installation.

If you want any further help, feel free to ask

### LINUX

According to a steam user it works on Linux Manjaro perfectly out of the box.

Reported on Steam to be working out of the box with Proton 5.0.9 on Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.

NOTE - Crossover has some issues with the 1.00.162 version. I would use Wine or Parallels.

A warning for Mac users:

- the current beta patch uses Unity 2019 and currently Crossover seems to not support the latest Mono engine used by Unity. A new version of Crossover is apparently in the works, maybe it may solve this (or not...)

I tried to install Warplan on my MBP using Crossover 19.0.2

Installing the Warplan v1.00 was quite straightforward but upgrading to the latest v1.00.7.3 proved to be a big fail.
I used the command launcher to execute the WarPlan-UpdateComp-v1.00.07.3.exe file, everything looks fine, upgrade confirmed but the game still runs on v1.00 and seems to ignore the whole update process.

Furthermore, when I tried to connect the multiplayer server (under v1.00) I got a "wrong serial number" error message.

I am glad I used the free trial version on Crossover :)

@Franciscus : you seem to be the expert here, do you have any advice ?

Hi
The correct process to install a patch on a game in a crossover bottle is not with the command launcher. You should
- download the patch
- open Crossover
- right-click on the WarPlan bottle and select “install application” (away from my Mac, don’t remember the exact wording)
- the usual menus to install something in Crossover appear. Type “patch” when asked what application you want to install and manually select the patch installer.
- the patch will install correctly.

Cheers

I did the v1.00.08 update on Crossover 19.0.2

When I launch the game, nothing happens... too bad, it used to work fine with v1.00.073

Any idea about what went wrong here ?

Yes, WarPlan 1.00.08 uses Unity engine 2019 and Crossover 19.0.2 is not compatible.

But Crossover 20 (currently in beta testing, due to be launched in some weeks) solves this.

Either you wait a couple more weeks or maybe you could apply to be a beta tester with CodeWeavers 😉

Hi, I'm running the game on arch and seems to work fine... except that the counters show no values, and the tooltips for the "Critical Display Buttons" are empty as well.
Any ideas?

Hi
I do not know Arch

With Crossover (Wine) that also happened at first, solved by installing CoreFonts

Yes, that was it... can't believe I didn't think it was font-related.
Thanks [&o]

Dear Mac users,

Following a very annoying bug on Warplan playing under Crossover 21.1 (game is granting one research point to every nations, every turns), I am in the process of transitioning to Parallels 17.1.1.

Currently on a 14 day trial version, I installed Windows 11 on my MBP and (almost) successfully ran Warplan.

The good news is that the massive research bug is not there anymore.

That was the weirded bug I have ever seen. Makes absolutely no sense it would even do it.
