Magicmissile (Axis) vs Malkarma (Allied) Malkarma so welcome :)

Post by MagicMissile »

We cant have such an quiet AAR section so I am again stepping up [:)]. I play a mirrorgame vs Malkarma with the latest beta might be interesting to see how that plays out. We will install latest beta and then the next official patch and stop there unless there will be something seriously wrong with the patch.

Ok so some things have changed. I guess you can say it is a bit of a pro axis patch so will be interesting to see how the allies manage. Biggest changes are I think the more expensive landing crafts and lesser chance for CVs to hit subs and the Portugal/Spain thing and finally the increased allied oil costs. I think I like the changes except maybe the oil cost. Not sure if the allies were ever really constrained by lack of oil. I still think maybe we are underestimating how difficult it can be for the Western allies to get a foothold in Europe but we will see how it goes.

The start of the game plays mostly the same. I decided to try a little bit different strategy in Poland and make as few attacks as I possibly can. So for example I didnt make a single attack on turn one in the western and northern part of Poland.

My overall strategy I am not sure. It is either build quite a lot of subs and see how that works out or the all in east campaign.

Poland falls after 2 turns that was a better than expected. I thought it would take 3 turns. I took poland with 10 land attacks and 8 ground strikes. For a loss of 6 air and 17 ground.

So funny with randomness. Here supposedly CVs are to have an even harder time to hit subs and then of course on the very first attack the cvs score a hit. Life is funny [:)].

Germany conquers the Netherlands. I took luxemburg on turn 1 and Denmark on turn 2 as usual. I did use the precious landing ship for 25 pps not sure if you need to but I still like the safety.

And that concludes the 39 campaign the whole German army is set on garrison mode.

Subs got a really good hit last turn 2 escorts and 7 merchants. That gives me the best start I ever had with subs. Unfortunately a lot of the sunk stuff is French but still it tempts me to go for the many subs strategy. Unfortunately some pps and shipyards have already been spent on landing crafts so I am behind the maximum sub build curve.

It really is a mirror match both sides got the same weather so I also take out Belgium and since the allied airforce were mostly sleeping also in this game my losses were small (German fighters did really well 26-7 in the air including Belgium) so I took the decision to advance all the way down to the southern part of Belgium to maintain the 3 hex attack on France.

Heavy rain consolidate in Belgium.

Can also add I forgot to turn of the Norwegian convoy so lost 14 MM in January I think it was.

Can also note that the British commitment to France looks to be pretty big.

Was a bit lucky and got another cold turn. Use it to take Lille. Will put a dent in French economy at least. My arm corps look a bit vulnerable but I prepared 2 retreat hexes if needed. Loss ratios this turn despite cold weather was good.

Advance continues. On the good side I shattered a British corps and my airforce is doing fine I think 1.66:1 in losses vs French and British. Think that is a better than I usually get. I was a bit lucky with tech research so my fighters are already upgraded to 41 tech should make some difference.

On the bad side my arm corps got counter attacked and forced to retreat 2 times so lucky I had prepared 2 openings for it. It survived but will be out of action for a while. Another arm corps also very tired and a little bit exposed.

Advance continues. Paris will fall next turn. My paratroopers make an very opportunistic thing and drops on Lyon. If Paris falls it will be over. I hope the paras survive but there is doubt.

I have shattered 3 British coprs and overran 1 British fighter so things are looking fine but losses are going up.

Paris falls Rouen falls too so paratroopers might die in vain but they still hang on. Early exit of France. The losses taken 160 land and 110 air is around what I expect to lose. Lucky with the late April cold weather that helped a lot.

Action will focus on the Mediterranean. I thought I was going to take Vichy and Western Africa and defend eastern Africa around Tobruk. But looking at the situation in eastern Africa I notice there is no British ships, no lock in Egypt and no UK preparation for taking Vichy Syria. So my plans are changed. I think Egypt can fall so I will go for that and posture for an invasion of the UK. Have LC for a invasion and British land army not that big at the moment.

Invasion of Syria and transports floods to the harbour. First German unit gets to Libya. A bit scared how much damage the transports will take from the air unit in Egypt. There is actually not that much point to sail in on the turn of invasion. I realised I could have waited ah well too late now.

In the Mediterranean the italian airforce perform beyond expectation. I am happily surprised [:)].

One well known person on the Matrix forums would not be happy [:)](dont think he plays Warplan). The Italians not only sank the Warspite also got Ramilies so big day for Italy who might rule the eastern Mediterranean for a little bit at least. I launched the Italian fleet to try and finish off the British fleet but they refused to find anything.
