The Wehrmacht macht

Post by sveint »

The wehrmacht has learnt the lessons from the last great war, infantry and artillery is king!
Panzers - toys. Naval units - complete waste. Airpower - fine, airpower is mobile artillery.
We will swarm our enemies with our superior numbers!

Our Panzers are renamed Recon 1 and Recon 2. We don't need any more.
Our fleet is parked and set to no upgrade, no reinforcements.

The assault on Belgium begins. Our infantry hordes will walk over any resistance on its way to Paris.

September 1940?
Chancellor Gorkon to Captain James T. Kirk:
You don't trust me, do you? I don't blame you. If there is to be a brave new world, our generation is going to have the hardest time living in it.

The lead German corps shatters (to the queue). The rains come, we won't get any further until spring.

We have Stukas, lots of Stukas. And when the weather clears, they get to fly.

Germany attacks Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium and Yugoslavia.

It looks like you favoring the Manpower economy. Since Germany caps at 900 and it start at 99% with a 30 MP bonus (the cost of a large corps) and that PP are never lost, but MP is. Same logic with the Italians apply here as well. Smart...

You might have changed my doctrine.

I don't know about smart, but it's an interesting experiment at least.

Since all the games that I have played that lasted after 43, Germany seemed to have a MP problem earlier than historical. So by not wasting MP in 39/40, that might stretch it further. That and using more their Minors would help.

Do you intend to switch to buying mech when your economy would allow it? What I mean by that is when your production will reach 300 PP/turn for a 39 mech?

I don't know yet. The initial plan is only infantry and air. I intend never to be at 99% manpower if I can help it.

Late may - rains again.

The German horde marches onward. We still have 130 supply trucks, none have been needed so far.
We are also approaching Belgrade.

Quite frankly the stukas are amazing. They really help punch holes in the French lines. I think in most games players build too many panzers and too few aircraft, at least I do.

A counter-attack shatters one German corps.

Our stampede continues, even French tanks cannot stop us. The UK all have anti-tank promotions which I consider hilarious.
Our recon unit does not attack but rushes through the opening left by the infantry.

Repeated attacks on Belgrade fail to take the city. We suffer quite a few losses. I should have sent a bomber.

Paris and Rouen will fall next turn.

I think we will take Norway next turn too. We only have 10 landing craft and a paratrooper but it will have to suffice.

Rouen falls again (to the French in a counter-attack). We'll take it and hold it this turn.

Italy invades Egypt and blockades Malta.

Athens falls. We try to punch through to Egypt but it looks like we'll have to give up.
It's hard to make any progress overseas when we don't build any naval assets.

Getting ready for the long march to Moscow.

Barbarossa begins. We have a long way to walk to Moscow, the weather is not too bad and there are no Soviets anywhere near the border.
Not much action, a single rifle corps is overrun.

PS: UK has 364 merchants and 35 escorts.
