Submarines and 05 version

In 05 submarines are much cheaper. But apparently the Germans reduced the production cost by removing the torpedo tubes.
I am on six turns in the N. Atlantic convoy routes and not a single engagement.
Has anyone else noticed this or am I just having exceptional bad luck?

9 turns now without a single Convoy engagement.
Something serious is wrong.

Experienced the same in recent games - submarines are not sinking ships anymore...

In the Beta Patch I'm sinking ships but at a vastly reduced rate than before or at least that's how it feels to me. Who would know though...

After I reinstalled the game and started over with my opponent, Subs began sinking merchants but in very reduced numbers. They might hit a convoy about every other turn for 1 or 2 merchants. Enough to think they are working but not enough that the UK has to do much to counter them.

Then I started a game to test something else. AI was set to usual default historic.
And all of a sudden the AI subs started slaughtering convoys. Even with the initial three groups it was taking out 5-10 merchants per turn. And, the AI Axis build subs as fast as they could. They were coming so close to destroying the whole UK merchant fleet I had to dedicate all UK production to replacing merchants and escorts.

Also, my main killer of subs before 05 was carriers. Airplane strikes seem to take them out easily. But this time CV's became complete ineffective. I am at Jan 1942 and have used UK's three CV groups repeatedly without a single kill. I have had one sub kill from land based bombers.

To give you some idea of the level of slaughter with the game at Jan 42:
UK has lost 123 merchants and 12 Escorts.
UK starts with 205 merchants. It is down to 130, I built about 48 replacements.
UK starts with 12 escorts. I have now built that up to 26.
UK Detection is at'42 Escort at '41
I believe the AI Axis is operating 5 sub groups now.

Has anyone else seen this kind of extremes under ver 05?
