Playing internet game

Post by rocket7407 »

Really having trouble starting an internet game. After signing in to the forum, nobody is online except me. Many listings for players seeking opponents but nobody ever responds to message. Help!

Many have already got games in progress, but there will be some. You should probably occasionally watch for people signing on to also check. Also, even this post of yours might get some attention. You could add more to your post to identify availability (days of week and times of day along with time zone).

In the mean time, it is good to get going with solitaire games to get a better feel on how things work in the game. I have been playing a game with a group for about 2 years, but have played several on my own since that started.

Try doing a post with your availability in the seeking opponents forum on this site.

I have had responses there and also some people in the netplay list do answer

Usually you arrange to meet up with someone after looking for an opponent on the forum. Netplay isn't the best way to play unless you have lots of time. PBEM works good with a random die roller and a chat like messenger, hangouts, viber etc. A good program which helps with quick screenshots is Greenshot...you can google it and you can paste pics direct into most chat programs.

I don't agree with the statement that Netplay isn't the best way to play. For a two player game, I would prefer Netplay before PBEM, since that is much more work with sending games through e-mail to one another. No picture taking is necessary, since both player get the results at the same time. It's far better...

Like I said, unless you have heaps of time. When you get to 1943/1944 it can take a few hours just to move ships. Netplay works fine if you are on similar time zones. PBEM suits the working and family people :)

There is a fairly large Discord WiF group with multiple games going on, and players wanted (no netplay though). If interested, let me know.
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC
