Mar/Apr 1945

Axis gains initiative, but a reroll is requested and the Allied player maintains initiative.

Allied Impulse #1

Weather - SN/ST/R/F/ST/R

The CW and France take Navals, Russia and China take Lands and the USA takes a Super-combined action.

The CW and the USA move FTRs into the the Marianas and the Bismarck Sea.

A considerable naval force is moved into the 3 box and a smaller, into the 4 box of the Bismarck Sea. Other areas are shored up with larger fleets, notably the Marianas. As well, CPs are covered and TRS are loaded bringing A/C and land units into the various theatres. An invasion force is in the Bismarck and Solomons Seas.

The USA initiates action in the Marianas, but Japan gains 7 surprise. They choose to avoid combat.

The CW activates in the Coral Sea, but again, Japan gains surprise (3). A surface naval action ensues. Japan decreases damage by using 2 points. A BB and CA are damaged while a CV is aborted. 3 CW CAs are aborted. Japan aborts as it has no more surface fleet and it is Stormy so its A/C does not matter.

The USA initiates in the Bismarck Sea and both sides are successful with no excess surprise. An air combat ensues... after both sides clear a bomber, the air combat is aborted. 1 Japanese CA is aborted and the other is damaged. An American CV is damaged. The USA finds in a 2nd round with 6 surprise. They use all to increase air attack effectiveness. After losing a FTR, Japan aborts from the air combat. Japan aborts the sea area, leaving Rabaul out of supply.

In the South China Sea, an Allied SUB fleet finds with 7 surprise. They choose SUB combat. Damage to the SUBs is decreased. 3 Allied SUBs are aborted and 2 Japanese CPs are lost and 1 aborted. The CW elect to sink under the waves until another target presents itself.

In the North Atlantic, Germany attempts to activate, but the USA gets surprise (8) and calls it off.

The Naval Combat ends without issue.

Mar/Apr 1945 Con't

Allied Impulse #1 Con't

Continuing after the Naval Phase...

Russia 3 LNDs to GS the Guderian hex in the Carpathians while a ART tries to disorganize an armour in adjacent to that. The CW GSs a stack in Burma with a CVP as well as joining 2 American CVPs to GS a Japanese MAR div in Losap, adjacent to Truk. The Japanese move to intercept. This is countered by Allied CVPs and FTRs. 2 of 3 Allied bombers clear while the Axis planes are aborted. Results... Guderian remains unhit while the MOT with him is disorganized. The GS near Truk and the one in Burma both fail.

Russia rails a MAR div to a port on the Baltic while also railing a MIL in north China to on top of Mao.

The USA moves units further into France and Italy. Russia moves all along its front with the Axis. Units infiltrate around the enemies positions. The Communist and Nationalist Chinese shuffle units about.

The Americans invade the hex to the SE of Truk. A MAR in the adjacent Matlok Islands joins in. Russia makes no attacks.

Shore bombardment is added to make a fairly reasonable odds attack. The USA calls a Blitz using their ARM MAR div. The hex is taken without loss for the Americans while the Japanese div there is taken out.

Many air units are rebased for the USA moving forward on all fronts or dropping units off TRS. Clarke unflips a couple of CW units in Brisbane. Blamey in Australia does likewise.

Axis Impulse #4 Con't

Italy chooses a Naval Action and Japan a combined while Germany chooses a Land.

Japan moves its fleet from Rabaul into the 3 Box while putting it in supply with a CL in Truk. Italy moves its fleet into the West Med.

In the West Med the Italians find with part of their fleet, achieving 4 surprise points. 2 are spent on attack and 2 on defense. All three CW escorts in the 3 box are aborted while there is not effect on the Italians. Neither side finds for a 2nd round.

In the Bismarck Sea, the Japanese have 2 points on the Allied fleet. In the air battle, 2 Japanese CVP are destroyed while a US FTR is aborted and all Allied CVP bombers clear. A Japanese CV and CL are destroyed while a Kamikaze damages an American CV. There is no further combat as Japan aborts the sea area.
There are no Strat Bombing or GS by the Axis.

Japan rails a unit to Chengchow from the Chinese coast. Germany rails units into Italy, Poland and Rumania. Germany moves to try to maintain supply to various units on all the varied fronts. Japan moves to regain supply in Burma.

Rebases are done to move air out of disadvantageous positions to better areas. The HQ in Rabaul reorganizes a CV and a FTR.

Allied Impulse #7

Weather R/R/F/F/R/F

The USA takes a Land and uses a chit, China takes a Land as well, the USSR takes an Air, while the CW takes a combined.

CW moves a TRS and escorts into the Bismarck Sea and picks up a MAR and 2 MAR divs in the 3 Box. It also picks up Hodges from Port Vila by TRS in the Coral Sea.

CW activates in the Marianas. Both sides find with no surprise. An air combat takes place... after having destroyed an American FTR and having a CVP and NAV destroyed, Japan aborts the air combat. The Japanese CV and a BB are aborted while a BB remains. There is no 2nd round.

There are no more naval combats...

There are no Strat bombing runs. Russia does multiple GSs against Guderian, hoping to disorganize him and pin him down for good. The LNDs have escorts. CW sends some GS against a hex in Burma and against a stack SW of Lille as well as one SE of Paris. The USA strikes against Truk with a CVP bomber.

There is an air battle over the oil fields in Burma. The CW loses a FTR but both FTR-bombers clear.

Near Paris, AAA there diverts 1 factor.

Results in France are no disruptions near Lille, but 1 ground and 1 FTR are flipped SE of Paris. 1 unit is disrupted in Burma. Guderian fails to be disrupted despite 4 LND making the attempt, 2 of them being anti-tank. Finally, no units in Truk are disrupted.

CW moves some units in Burma and debarks an ARM in Brest. The USA moves units around France as does France itself. China moves Stilwell forward.

There are no invasions. The USA attempts a PARAdrop SE of Paris. It is intercepted and then countered in abundance. In the combat, the ATR is shot down and in return, a German FTR is lost.

To be continued...

Allied Impulse #7 Con't

A massive air combat takes place SE of Paris for Ground Support. After 1 destroyed LND and 2 destroyed FTR, Germany aborts.

With an attack roll of 19, the hex is taken without issue. 2 enemy units are destroyed.

The USA rebases some FTR near Truk. The USSR moves all of its air forward.

The CW uses some HQs to reorganize FTR in France. Eisenhauer does likewise. As well, CW TRSs reorganize another FTR.

The turn does not end on a 6>2.

Axis Impulse # 9

Japan takes a Naval Action while Germany takes a Land and Italy a Naval.

Italy maintains its position in the West Med. Japan moves to cover convoys and confronts the Allies in the Marianas.

Surprisingly, no Naval Combats were successfully activated by either side.

Germany once again moves to keep a strong defensive line on both fronts.

Japan rebases a FTR in China to the Philipines. Germany repositions FTRs to better positions at the front.

No HQ reorganizations. Japan uses a TRS to reorganize the Shinano BB in Truk.

The turn does not end on a 6>4.

Mar/Apr 1945 Con't

Allied Impulse #11

Weather roll of 9 spells trouble with Fine everywhere except the Arctic.

The CW takes a Combined, the USA takes a Land and uses an Off Chit (on Bradley), the USSR takes a land and uses a chit (on Koniev), and France and China take a Land.

No naval air or naval moves are done.

The CW activates in the Bismarck Sea achieving 4 surprise points. They choose a surface combat and sink the lone Japanese CL there and with no ill effects to themselves. The Japanese abandon the sea zone thereafter placing their fighters hither and thither.

There is no strategic bombardment.

Ground strikes are carried out by France, the USA and the CW against an armoured stack 2 hexes NE of Toulouse. CW and American ART and bombers also strike directly at Paris (with many interceptors close at hand). Russia hits a hex NE of Krakow with 2 LND and another NW of Lodz with ART and an LND. Finally, China tries a strike against a unit near Ichang.
The only interception is by Japan of the Chinese GS. It is countered by 2 Chinese FTRs. The result is the LND clears and the Japanese FTR aborts ending the combat.

Near Lodz, 1 of the 2 units is inverted, while near Krakow sees 1 of 2 inverted as well (but not the big ARM despite an anti-tank LND). All units in Paris are turned over as well as all units struck near Toulouse. Finally, the GS in China fails.

There are no rail moves except for France moving a HQ-INF to a port in West Africa from its capital.

The USA end up moving around France to do some attacks. China finds itself already in place for an attack should it choose. France also is already in position. Russia moves along its front with Germany moving in to attacks.

The USA invades Yap and Palau in the Bismarck Sea. There is a Paradrop on Paris. It is intercepted and countered. After aborting 1 Allied FTR, the German interceptor is destroyed and the PARA clears.

The USA (double from the OFF) and the CW do attacks on Paris and the Americans assist the Free French on an attack NE of Toulouse. Russia attacks the Ploetsi oil fields as well as an OOS SS MOT in the Carpathians. In addition, a hex near Krakow and one near Lodz are attacked with doubled attackers. China tries a low-odds attack from Ichang.

Stilwell adds HQ support in China. DeGaulle does likewise in his attack as does Patton on Paris.

Germany floats CAP over both attacks from Russia, Lodz and Krakow areas. The allies sent bountious escorted ground support against the hexes in France to which the Germans have no answer. In Poland, hexes are sent supported and escorted bombers by both sides and air combat ensues. Japan send some air over the unit near Ichang which is not intercepted.

Near Lodz, both sides lose an LND and all others abort. After losing 2 FTR near Krakow, the Germans abandon the hex.

To be continued with Land Attacks...

The +21 attacks in the Pacific go off without issue.

Also automatic is a blitz attack on Ploesti and one on an oos SS MOT in the Carpathians. The attack near Krakow kills both defenders and results in a breakthrough. A similar result happens NW of Lodz.

Allied Impulse #11 Con't

The Attacks continue...

In Norway, Norwegian Partisans attack Kristiansand. A 16 modified kills the GAR and takes the ports while 1 Partisan is lost. Near Toulouse, the hex is taken with the loss of an American MOT div and 1/2 disorganized. The attack on Paris succeeds as well with no losses to the attacker and 2 of 3 German units destroyed (an INF and MOT) and an AAA surviving to go to the spiral. Finally, in China east of Ichang, China losses a MOT and is disorganized while Japan loses a MIL.

The CW moves an FTR near Rabaul as does the USA, which also moves an ATR to Greenland.

Bradley and Koniev are used to reorganize units for their respective powers.

The turn does not end on a 6 not > 6.

Mar/Apr 1945 Con't

Axis Impulse #12

Germany takes a Land, Japan takes a Combined as does Italy.

Japan does a port attack on Kwajalein against 2 American CAs. The USA gets 2 surprise points... not enough but does increase AA a level. 1 CVP is destroyed and 2 more factors do not press the attack leaving 13 factors to bomb. 1 CA is destroyed and the other disorganized.

The Japanese move the Yamato out of Truk to the Bismarck in attempt to reestablish supply to Rabaul.

There were no successful naval activations in the impulse, so Japan's gamble paid off (if the turn ends).

Germany and Japan both move units to defend weak areas (and hope for the turn to end).

Germany rebases a FTR and a Rumanian LND in the East.

No HQ or other reorganizations are done.

The turn ends on a 7>4.
