Overruns

Post by Courtenay »

I could not figure out how to overrun ground units. (Overrunning undefended ships or planes is easy.) Finally I figured it out, and, since I could not find instructions on how, exactly, to do it anywhere, I decided to post instructions on how to do it.

The key is that the computer wants you to be in an adjacent hex when you overrun. Use cntl left click to stop with your moving unit (or cntl-shift left click for a stack) in a hex next to the unit you want to overrun it. Then click on top of the hex you want to overrun, and, if the overrun is legal, the computer will eliminate the opposing units and put your units in that hex. You can not start two (or more) hexes away and do the overrun; you have to stop in an adjacent hex, using cntl left click, and then conduct the overrun.

There could be a stacking problem in the hex you want to overrun from, if you already have units there. However, the program is fine with your moving your units that are already in the hex out of the hex, conducting the overrun, and then undoing the non-overruning unit's move, so they wind up back in their starting hex.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

It should accept the temporary overstacking for the purpose of overrun. In general, the Ctrl-Left-Click on a hex should permit overstacking.

You are right; it does. The first time I did this, I made some mistake, because I thought overstacking was not allowed. The key point, though, is that you have to use Cntl-Left-Click to get your units adjacent to the overrun hex to do the overrun.

I'm completley unable to overstack a hex in any way shape or form to perform an overrun. Can somebody give me some sort of step by step directions, hopefully with pictures?   I'm able to do overruns but i'm not able to ctrl click on a hex adjacent to the one I want to overrun if it will cause over stacking. A pictograph of the overstacking you folks are talking about would be super helpful thanks :)

It's simple: move your units unto the hex adjacent to the hex which is going to be overrun and CTRL left click. After calculation you still have that stack in your hand and move unto the units you are going to overrun.

Thank you! I could not figure out how to do this.

I didn't even know how to move land units in a stack.

Overrunning is easy, I was wondering about over stacking a hex to be able to overrun.

Move them out of the way. Do the overrun. Undo the units first moved.

Ahh, so temporarily overstacking is not allowed. The second post threw me off.
