How is it available?
I was just wondering, how will this game be made available? Will it be digital download, purchase in store, or only online. I prefer dd but will consider other ways of purchasing this interesting looking game.
Any idea on a price yet?

RE: How is it available?
It will be the same as other Matrix games, by digital download & you can buy a box (I think!). We've given them the code, they're building installers now and setting up the digital river download. I'm not sure how long it will take but shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks.

Same question as in the Slitherine forums: Will it be available in stores? As good as Spartan is and with the extra market push in the genre from RTW I would think selling GoT in stores during the Holiday season would be a smart move. My copy of Spartan was a present bought at CompUSA. If GoT is mail order only or digital download then I'll never get it or be able to give it as a gift.

Only Matix can decide that, but I know there were some hold up that have since been resolved and they are back on the case and we should see something soon. The last thing to sort out was the manual.

IMO Matrix needs to push and get this game available in plenty of time for the holidays.

I still cannot find Gates of Troy at any of the major retailers: CompUSA, Walmart, Best Buy, EB....etc.
Hard to believe they'd miss Christmas.

You can order it direct from Slitherine or wait for Digital River to "get around" to making it available here[8|][>:].ORIGINAL: solops

If it is not on a disck in a box with a printed manual, I'm not buying it. I'm through with downloaded products.

I don't think there is even an option for a dd at the Slitherine site, only a box/disc/manual. Myself... i feel i owe it to Matrix to wait for them, and they are waiting on DR, to keep the $ in the family so they can continue bringing the type of products only they can provide[:)].

Well, it's getting pretty darn hard to find any game with a printed manual unless you are willing to pay $69.99 for it. I just bought American Conquest Gold Edition at EB for $19.95... and guess what? I get a 1 page sheet that says "read the PDF on the CD"!
Personally, I really prefer to just download the files, burn my own backup CD, and occasionally print out key portions of the manual if necessary for immediate reference. Another good point is that I don't have a bulky box and printed manual to try and keep track of! With as many games as I own, I'd like them all to be paperfree and electronic media only.
Just my two cents worth.
Did you have a bad experience with Digital River or something? I've downloaded WiTP, StarShatter, and now Troy with no problems whatsoever. I also got the WiTP 1.30 patch without a hitch also and I just have a rather slow DSL connection. For me, digital download is the preferred way to go in the future!

Speaking of Downloads
Some of the newer Photoprinters now print directly on CD/DVD media (inkjet printable media required). I've had a blast with mine (Epson STylus Photo R300), creating professional looking disks.
Now... one more thing to add to the digital download files... include a JPEG of the production disk so that I can print my own professional looking "Troy" backup disk.
Just a suggestion... a DVD style "case label" jpeg would also be really nice to have with the digital download.
Just wishin'

In another week or so it will be available on a printed disc, in a printed DVD box that looks like the image in the store. However, a printed manual option is still being worked on. Nevertheless, we provide a printer-friendly low-graphics version of the manual that you can print yourself without using up too much ink or toner. Alternately, bring it to a Kinko's and print it out (not in color) and it should be inexpensive.
Personally, I print them out here myself on a cheap laser printer and have found that it's much more affordable in the long term to go with a laser than with the ink jet model. The ink replacement cost can really get ridiculous on an ink jet if you print a lot of pages regularly.

That shouldn't be a problem. I'll see if we can make these items available through the Members Area.

My English CD version of GoT has a really unusual set of labels.

I have also had it with direct download. Purchased Gates of Troy today. Downloaded and installed. Game will not run. Screen says serial number is invalid. But I needed serial number to install, how could it be invalid? Repeating the entire process didn't help. This is frustrating to put it mildly.

It might be best to start a new thread with this issue so Erik notices. Serial numbes are not something we know anything about, so sorry we can't help

That would be marvelous! I'd like to see something like that for every game in the Matrix downloadable line. [&o]
On the subject of inkjets, I have to say that despite a lot of disappointments in the past from inkjets, this Epson R300 really puts out a lot of pages for the money. It has six separate ink cartridges so you exhaust every bit of the ink that you buy (unlike the combo color cartridges found in many inkjets!). I've printed several manuals (in color) without feeling too much pain (and they look great). The other thing that I've noticed with the Epson is that the cartridges do not "dry out" and go bad. I used to put a black cartridge into my Canon BubbleJet, print maybe 50 pages, and then come back to find the cartridge had to be replaced... grrr!
I might also recommend Carrot Ink (http://www.carrotink.com/) for inexpensive ink cartridges. I can get a new set of cartridges for my R300 within 3 days, can't tell any difference from the name brand cartridge, and they are about 30% less than the best price I could find for the Epson cartridges.
I might mention, that the Epson R200 and R300 both print directly onto printable DVD's and CD's and the results are fabulous!

Well, none of my group of buddies got GoT for Christmas. If wives/girlfriends/kids could not find it at a store, it did not get purchased.

Do none of their wives/girlfriends/kids buy anything over the internet these days? That's becoming fairly rare, actually.
