SERIAL ERROR: This product's serial number...

If you have Gates Of Troy and Windows 98/Me and are seeing the following message after installing the game:

"This product's serial number is either invalid or has not been properly authorized. Please contact Matrix Games at support@matrixgames.com to report this error."

Don't despair. Your serial number is fine, but there appears to be a glitch on some older systems with enabling it properly. The problem is on our end, but we're trying to find if it's an installer glitch or an executable glitch. Needless to say, this didn't come up on our systems before release. In fact, we just this morning found an older machine that could duplicate it for the first time. That's good news, since it means we can fix it, but we are not sure how long this will take.

I'm hoping we will have a fix today. If not, I'm confident we can get this fixed over the weekend and have something for you on Monday. Either way, we'll make sure that those customers having this trouble are up and running soon.

Please check this thread for an update when it is posted. If you are seeing this problem with a newer system, running Windows XP, please still e-mail us at support@matrixgames.com as that is likely to not be the same issue. FYI we have only had reports of a problem with a few older systems, this does not appear to be at all widespread.
