It was announced today at the www.wargamer.com, the 3 patches are at the Firaxis site fyi. Yep, my copy of BTS is with overnight shipping[:D] so i'll be fillin' it Tuesday[8D].

I found the right patches. That's what I do too, overnight so I don't have to lose too much sleep waiting. [:D] Have fun and let me know how it is. I just got done playing Warlords and that updated Civ4 quite well in itself.

Well, I'm not THAT mad. Just kinda resigned.

I was pissed, too, about the 1.8 patch. Then I yanked it, re-installed to get to 1.7, and that was that.

The version I bought is a good, solid game. It's not my favorite title, but it's fun, it's playable, and it's got some longevity as there are two settings.

It's the principle of the thing -- Hussar not responding after people (including me) have been posting about this for days -- that burns me. I don't care HOW busy you are. You can take 45 seconds to say "we hear you" to people who've shelled out money for your product.

It's just a bit of a wargaming life lesson. I'm going to keep For Liberty on my PC. But I'll think again next time I see a new release.

FYI, i decided to give it a spin after reading all this and i got the BUG at the first tactical battle...what a joke. I figured out how to fix "my" problem once and for all: go to Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs, select For Liberty and then finally select Uninstall Program. Worked like a charm, another $50 write off. After the Civ4 exp pack and Medievil 2 addon i'm done this year...life is too short.

Allow me to defend the game makers for a second. [:D]

Wow! I`m glad I don`t work for Hussar games. I think some people want to tar and feather them. [:D]

Well it's not this traumatic for me. I paid around $20 dollars and got Liberty and 1848.

Three games really for around $20, that's pretty good deal.

I did find the 1.75 patch and it works well it seems. This 1.80 patch was just released Thursday. The ¨Division by Zero¨ bug reported this weekend. Today is Monday.

So let's see what we hear.

If we don`t hear anything then I will join the Hussar hanging mob. [;)]

Ike;

I think I paid the same as you around last August. Still, for any price the cancel buttons should cancel out of a menu NOT keep the settings. I have bitched about that for a year now and it is STILL NOT FIXED! All menus are worthless that way to me. For instance, Recruitment menu. Go into that and do some things then click the "X" button. Did it keep the settings or did it cancel out? I bet you know the answer... [;)]

Exactly, and just let me point out i am not mad nor am i upset with Matrix per se. I am just disgusted with the gaming industry of late and maybe i am getting too old(45) or too impatient to spend my time patching only to make things worse. In this case, to release a patch and disappear is very unresponsible especially considering how it broke the game. I deleted FL as a show of contempt for such behaviour.

I must say the the FL team were always very helpful and friendly when they were selling through their previous 'publishers'. Even though the game's not as fresh now I'm surprised they seem to avoid these forums. I kind of wish they hadn't switched to Matrix.

Hi Hellpatrol & Larry.

I can hear and feel your pain.

[:D]

OK...that's being too dramatic. But yes I understand you. I bought Strategic Command from Battlefront a long time ago with that STUPID electronic registration bullshit on it.

Later when I tried to jump through the hoops for a game I paid moneyfor and reinstall it after reformatting my PC it said something like.... registration limit up or something like that when I went to unlock it. Can`t remember exactly what it said but it was something like that.

I threw it in the garbage vowing to never buy another game with that on it and so far haven`t and won`t.

I posted this on the Matrix general forum a LONG time ago and Matrix responded saying they wouldn´t put this on their games. I´m glad too because if they did I wouldn`t be buying their games either.

After patching last night: After playing Warlords for a while this morning, I uninstalled Warlords AND Civ4. The same problems are there from originally. Popup help stopping then coming back later, who knows when. Go to save a game and I can't enter anything. Text boxes for naming cities won't let me enter text either. Tooltips stopping. Civ4 is just like these other crummy patched games---worthless and untested enough!

One less lifetime game to play, darn it.

I hope you don't have these problems, especially with this new expansion. [&:]

[:D][&o]LOL...don't get me started. It seems long ago that i bought Civ4 at release to play on my <1year old Alienware. It wouldn't work[:@]...crashes, glitches. It turned out one culprit was my, at the time, next generation Nvidia card[X(]. Their "patches" never worked...in the pile it went. A year or so later i got a $4900 gaming laptop so my Son could have my Alienware to play his "tight" and "cool" games[;)], then it worked(Civ4)...with a 512mg Nvidia card and 2GB DDR RAM it had better, right? So, in essence, you could say i bought a new PC for Civ4...the one i'm typing on with it's awesome color changing fan lights et al[8|][:D].

Well that makes sense, however, my PC is a Dell XPS-600 with a 3.6 gig CPU, 2 gigs RAM, GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB RAM video card, and bunches more. I can't imagine me having too small a machine?! Civ4 did it on my 2nd PC too, same things. That PC is a 2.2 gig CPU, 2 gig RAM, GeForce 5700 card.

These are the last Dells I am ever buying. I am fed up with support from India and proprietary crud. [;)]

Gosh, I am sorry to anyone reading my posts if you are getting depressed! This has been a bitch-fest. [:D] My wife cornered me right after I uninstalled Civ4 and she said "When are you going to play a game that doesn't make you crabby?" [:D] [:D] [:D]

I have a ~3 year old Dell with an ATI 128 MB video card. Nothing fancy, nothing customized. just like it came from Dell except for an additional 512 MB ram.. Civ 4 ran perfect on it. It's my second Dell and if I need an new computer it'll probably be a Dell.

I used to say that about Dell. I referred everyone to them. I have bought two of their PC's and sold several for them through referral. What really made me mad was when I bought this XPS-600 with SLI, I upgraded my video this month and it would not run the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS in SLI when they recommended it. Things like the power supply built into the bottom of the chassis keeps me from upgrading it so I can run more. Proprietary crap. All of it.

MarkShot buys from Falcon and he said that they use standard parts so you can upgrade. They also have USA support! What a new concept! [;)]

You got me laughing along with my wife!!! I read it aloud to her and we are watery eyed. Thanks! I needed that. [:D][:D][:D]

I used phone company support two months ago and it was still local but loco. The locals were idiots and it took weeks to accomplish a two days task. At least I could understand them.

I don't understand why Civ4 did what it did. I just got fed up with the same old year of troubles. I should have no problem with my PC. I run games like Company Of Heroes with everything on Ultra AND High settings. Even AntiAlias at 16Q. Go figure?! [&:]

I can sure relate to you on this digital download X%$#MXX&&##@@@ blankity blank scam. Check out my thread from a few months ago:

This reminds me, on this electronic registration thing with ¨strategic command¨ I had to go to some seperate game site other than Battlefronts, can`t remember the name. You had to register with their site, of course it had pop ups and advertisements on it. I had to do that just to ¨unlock¨ the game the first time when I bought and owned the game.

Of course a year and a half later when I want to reinstall ¨Strategic Command¨ I have to go back to that site. Can`t remember the name I registered under or password. Didn´t want to even be a ¨member¨ in the first place. ¨Member¨ also known as flood your computer and e-mail with their advertisements and 25 other companies.

So after going through re-registering and all this again...didn´t work anyways. No way...disk went to the garbage and never again will I buy a game with that electronic registration shit on it. Pirates can break any security feature they can put on a game in no time anyways. These features only hurt the paying customer.

I can say with Matrix all the games I have bought have been through electronic download and have never had a problem with it. I prefer to buy my games like this actually...from Matrix only though.

I download my games & get the serial number. Then I burn 2 copies and make a case for each with the serial number and title on it. One goes away for safe keeping in a drawer. The second copy I use and sits on my desk.

I do pretty much the same thing. I make a couple copies, one on a group DVD and another on a seperate CD if it will fit. I put the serial number on them and also a saved copy of the register email that Matrix sent is in the folder. The way Matrix does digital download is the best. However, patches, continuous bugs, and me are not too happy right now. This For Liberty! ordeal has put me over the edge.

There are also some other gripes along this line but I won't bring them up. No use. [:-]

Here it is 4:36 PST and not one soul has even responded to a broken patch, Hussar obviously bailed out and will not be releasing a new game, at least with Matrix. I will officially close this file and unless it's a well known developer i won't buy just cause Matrix carries it.

Amazing huh?! It's hard for me to believe. It's like the Matrix team got beamed up by Scotty or something. Especially after a 30% sale, I would expect the team to monitor the support forum for new buyers having issues.

I'm not buying anything, Matrix or otherwise for some time. A lot has hit the fan in the last month as far as bugs, patches, and games go. I've lost my patience. [>:]
