shooting allies

anyone know why we are able to shoot our allies in detailed combat,i even saw the Austrians blow away there own allies with cannon.

I think that that is actually a good feature. Didn't realize it till I accidentally caught one of my own units at the wrong angle. At least in ACW, friendly fire was pretty common. It was very smokey and confusing out there I guess.

I too second the fact that it was not unknown for such things to occur. In my recent heavy reading on the topic of 18th century warfare, I bumped into more than one reference to it.
By the way, does the tactical game have smoke effects of any kind?

Yes smoke plays a significant role in detailed combat, both Divisional and Brigade-level battles. In some cases it completely blocks LOS if a lot of canon and infantry fire is concentrated in a localized area long enough.

Why do you think their uniforms were so garish?
