AI Observations

Post by tran505 »

Just wondering others have the same reaction to the game AI.

As the Union, I find that the AI is adequate to put up an entertaining, if not inspired fight. No, I did not see any great invaisions of the North, but overall it was good enough to make the game entertaining. Perhaps New Orleans is defended a bit too much (as opposed to Western Tennessee) and it seems the ANV is not focused enough on protecting Richmond, but overall I have to say I have fun with the Union. [:)]

Playing the CSA seems be another story -- kinda boring actually. The AI Union seems to hang back north of the Mason-Dixon not doing much aside from having Grant wandering around New Jersey. No serious push towards Boling Green, no push at all into Western Tenessee, not one move south of the Potomac, and no activity at all on the coast, through the summer of '63. Lee has been camped on the Potomac for over a year -- nothing happening! [>:]

Is this about right, or have others had a different experience?

Thx,

The main settings to improve northern aggressiveness are to increase their activation chances (The northern general's strategic ratings are godawful, and the AI won't move much with inactive generals) and lessen the FOW for the AI a bit.  I've seen naval invasions on occasion, but they are rare.  That's an aspect that should improve once some of the improvements from the next few games are backloaded into AACW.

In 1.07f the Union AI should give you some problems, well I hope anyway [;)]

Thanks guys. I will update, adjust settings, and hope to have some "problems" come my way. The game is beautifully done and I am looking forward to the Napoleons Campaigns coming to Matrix downloads soon !! [:D]
