Manassas finally falls

Post by robot »

It took me over two years but we finally overcame the rebels at mannassas. I was finally able to amass enough troops to push them out of the city. On my fifth try I had 72000 to there 59000 this was after at least a year of utter starvation for the south. There supply per turn has been down below 52 per month for over a year. But they still are able to out produce me on heavy and light artty. They never seemed to have less then 160 artty no matter where I attacked. I took the two forts at the mouth of the Mississippi in the second month. Then one after the other the east coast and gulf coast fell to my onslaught. Took new Bern in the third month then Jacksonville. Once they were taken I moved on Savanna and then took the one in Texas also the one next to Mobile fell. Even with there supply cut to well below what they need to supply there troops they still continue to make or repair at least three guns per turn. I made a big mistake early in the game by not taking Paducah before the rebels did. Have tried at least five times to take it and still have not come close. They always seem to have well over 160 guns sitting there even tho every time I have attacked they lose from 2 to three guns.

There ability to produce guns is amazing to me. At least the raiders are no longer being produced as I have sunk every one they made and now the supply thing stops them from making any more.

I have not been able to declare the emancipation proclamation as I have not gotten a strategic victory. Something I have no idea about how to accomplish. I have the Political points just don't have the victory as yet. Can anyone tell me how or what I need to do to accomplish this please. I am in September 1863 and have way more then enough points to get Lincoln elected in 1864.

I did not use corp set up in this one wanted to see how I did with out them. Also the trouble to set them up didn't seem worth it. To fix your corp after losses entails deleting the whole corp and trying to find out who lost the unit and replace them and then they have no movement points again and must wait another month for them to be able to move. I don't know but for the benefit from using corp does not offset the effort and the delay in time. If I start trying to set up corp in January 1862 it seems to always take until April or May before there ready to fight again. And then it always seems you run out of really good leaders to be sub commanders. Just my opinion is all and you really don't need corp to win this game.

The Manassas battle may have been a Strategic Victory, and if so, you will be able to declare EP on your next turn. It takes a big battle to be a SV, I think between 20 and 30 units in the smaller force in the battle (with the more men the better the chance). It sounds like you might have done it (if not, you were very unlucky).

Forgot to mention you also have to have 1000 Political points to declare EP, so if you are below this on the turn after you win an SV, you lose the right to declare the EP and have to win another battle in the future.

Thanks Joel I have 1071 PP have had that for some few turns. But mannassas did not give me the strategic win. Guess the emancipation proc doesn't really matter tho. I am going into 1864 with the same or near pp points so i guess Lincoln will be reelected which will give me the win I assume. Just will be less of a win then I really wanted but what the heck beggers can't be choosey right.

Well my first whole war is over and Lincoln lost the election. Which means the rebels have whipped the North this time. Made a mistake after finally taking manassas late 64 giving me the PP I needed for Lincoln to get reelected. I made a big mistake and did not reinforce the city with enough troops and a fort. The rebs came back in Oct. and retook it with 44000 troops I had only 12000 there to hold it. This managed to drop me 3 points below the required 1000 points.

I have a question how does the south continue to manufacture so many big and small guns even tho there supply is well below the amount needed to supply troops. I took at least 7 of there ports had the mississippi closed from early 1863. From the middle of 1863 till the end they never had in any month over 235 supply. yet there attrition of troops was only at the most 3 per month. While I had at least 2000 supply each and every month for over two years and my attrition was always at least 5 and even as high as 7 or 8 per month. Most of my states could never produce anything not even supply and the loss of troops really hurt me as my replacement pool was next to nil. I firmly believe from all I read from the Civil war that the north was able to out produce and to supply more men then the south at all times. That was one of the main reasons the south lost from all I have read.

But in this game they out produce in Guns especially. Granted there riding ability was greater and they had more horsemen. But i dont believe in such great proportions as is shown in this game. Hell at any given turn they can place on the battle field at least three times the horsemen as I am able to.

Granted the North has the ability to build a great navy which Im sure is how it was back then. But im sure we had a heck of a lot more young men who were willing to go and fight. And our population should make a big difference in this game. It doesnt as in almost every battle I engaged in I was out numbered three to one. In this game i did not use the corp set up. Just too much trouble to set up I thought. I will try again this time using corps and see if it changes anything. In the way battles go maybe I will start to get more of the odds in my favor and not in favor of the south.

These are just some of my thoughts about the game and does not mean that I think in any way this is not a great game. I do and I have already come up with a lot of ways different i intend to fight this game. One of the most important I believe is to take Paducah in August 1861 and not wait for the south to take it as it becomes a fortress and very hard to take back. Plus it closes two main rivers by which you move deep into the south by. I also plan to move Franz Sigel from Mo to Ohio as my first corp leader there. Along with him I will move the army commander that is there cant think of his dam name at the minute to OH and make him the Army of Ohio commander as I believe he is a better leader then Buel. Buel will be my training guy in Cincinnati only. Lyon finally thought of his name just hope he doesnt get knocked off as he did in my last war. I also plan to use a lot more administrators this game to build forts and depots.
