basic question

Picked this up in the sale as I have an enduring search for a realistic operational/strategic WW1 game. Gave up on WW1 gold as while there is a clearly a great game somewhere in there its too prone to crashing to be worth trying to excavate.
So, start with the Allies in the 1914 game and can't work out how to order the British to France. Even after I get naval control over the North Sea, the French ports come up as an invalid destination (trying to use strategic movement). I've left spare transports in the ports etc etc.
Clearly there is an easy solution (I assume) but can't figure it out. Both the (very good) 'how to' threads start with the CP sp this is not explained (and I can't find it in the manual)
Help?

Hi - been a while since I played the game, but IIRC you have to have 1 transport set to "Sea transport" (or something like that) in every sea area for each corps you move - so say moving from South England to Egypt/Gallipoli you would need 1 transport in the North Atlantic, east an west med - 3 transports - to move 1 corps (assuming I remembered the map correctly).
this is, IMO, THE WW1 game of all time (to date) - shame it wasn't kept in development but there is a limited audience and the game has limited replay value, so perhaps understandable. The mechanics are brilliant.

See pages 12, 26 and 28 of the manual, you need amphibious points in each sea zone in order to transfer units from one port to another.

An excellent game, still the best WW1 title IMO.

You need Amphibious Points to sea transport units to France. You need to activate an HQ adjacent to units that you want to have perform an invasion.
While the oldest Guns of August is still the best WW1 computer game. Nice easy naval and air routines make it easy to use these features. I also like the research feature as well as how to replace unit losses or HQ points. I tried Commander The Great War and it was a Great Mistake! I wouldn't even waste my time with the AGEOD garbage, their games are the most pathetic of all Matrix offerings!
