Attack across a river

Is there any benefit to put units behind a river? AFAIK in WWI rivercrossing was not that easy so there must be a modifier, but I can`t find any reference in the manual.
Can anybody fill me in, please.

I see it didn`t work. I tried to change the font size, but it looks now weird anyway.

This is what I vaguely remember from earlier posts:
- If an assault is made where some of the attacking units attack across a river, there is a *chance* of a river penalty being applied.
- This chance is in line with the proportion of attackers crossing the river (?? so if 40% of the units across river, then 40% chance of penalty??)
- Not sure of the exact calculation or exact penalty.
- So it is not - as you might expect- just the river-crossers who get penalised; it is all of the attackers or none.
You might want to search the forum for the previous answer; now that I read the above, it does not really give a complete overview...

Crossing units loose 1 readiness before battle.
