The new Cruiser Minelayer San Francisco, sub S-35 (that can't be right as I have one of those already I think?) and Pre-Dread' Illinois (see screenie - more Dixie art) arrived at Mare Island. They will all head for PH, but the sub will patrol Midway first. The old North Force Pre-Dreadnoughts arrived at PH and disbanded.

2 more small AKs are unloading at Manila. Manila looks quite strong still (see screenie).

The new DDs finally arrived at Balikpapan and were divided between SOPAC Force and the US/Dutch Light Force. De Zeven Provincien is now 50/79.

56 Sqn (Sopwith Snipes) and 84 Sqn (DH-9As) loaded at Karachi for Singapore. USN AD Blackhawk and DD Preble left Colombo for Balikpapan. I still do not know where Martin is or what his revised plans are...

One house rule I would suggest is port stays in neutral ports be limited to essential repairs, and / or 24 hours.... Shades of the Graff Spee at Montevideo.....

I do not make any offensive moves from neutral ports, but allowed British ports to repair US ships from the outset. I rationalised this by the US offering to pay in gold and the British being unable to say no because of war debt. All other stays were restricted until Martin did something to provoke a Diplomatic response. US/Chinese/Dutch ships may still not make offensive moves from British ports, but French ships have basing rights. It's working well so far - the Jap player essentially controls who is at war with them...

The British CV Argus will arrive in 15 days (see screenie). She will be the first of the major RN reinforcements to arrive, but as Martin seems to have stopped antagonising the Brits, I don't expect she'll do much more than cover convoys and protect Singapore...

A Corps HQ and a Corps Artillery unit are shipping out to Rabaul from Mare Island. The AEF HQ is heading for PH, with orders for Wake Island.

A US supply convoy with 25000 tons on board has arrived at Rabaul. This convoy will follow 1st US Cav Div, which is due to arrive at Rabaul shortly. I have not yet decided where to employ these new troops, but am leaning towards Balikpapan.

De Zeven Provincien is now 50/78. S-7 has disbanded at Canton with 6/37. I am moving another R-boat to the Pescadores as a mouseover shows a convoy of 9 APs there. I wonder where they are going?

My O Class subs arrived at PH. I have sent then to patrol Midway while I decide what a 3500 mile range is actually good for...

S-8 and S-15 will redeploy to Manila from Balikpapan and Tarakan. L-1 will sail from Singapore to lay a defensive minefield at Hong Kong. I cannot remember if I have posted a screenie of the Hong Kong garrison. Apologies if it's a repeat...

Is the 1st Cavalry Convoy on Stopping at Rabaul for refueling? I would think as Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and France are neutral, they would not allow the United States to deploy troops in their territories.

The US has base forces assisting the Australians in building up Rabaul, Port Moresby and Darwin as forward operating bases for ANZAC and British forces. Payment for this was the right to land LCUs at Brisbane for reorganisation. I would not put US forces anywhere else unless Martin provoked a diplomatic response. All they will do is refuel. As you will see from the next post, the cracks are starting to appear at Manila, so I am really not sure where to send them. They could so easily be overwhelmed and destroyed at Balikpapan if Martin can free up LCUs from the PI. He has over 200,000 troops engaged there! My one Division would be pretty useless against that...

Central Pacific

R-25 sailed from PH with orders to patrol Saipan before heading to Canton. R-12 was radioed at sea and diverted from Wake to patrol Guam before heading to Canton.

Here is a screenie of the Soerabaya garrison. I am probably going to send 1st US Cav to Java for now. I will send West Coast based air units too, if I remember next turn...

DEI/PI

De Zeven Provincien is now 50/62. R-18 is out of ammo at the Pescadores and will return to Canton to rearm. R-19 will redeploy from Takao to take her place.

Mike's forces at Manila are now staggeringly large. I hope that last attack used up all his supplies! I will have to remeber to move some subs to interdict his supply lines. He has done a good job of moving my Naval Forces South to the DEI. I might have to consider moving some back across his supply lines once Pac Flt arrives to protect the DEI...

I am eagerly reading this AAR since yesterday. So count me in as a new reader.

Still, I'm only at page seven.
It's a good thing that my vacation started this week :D

One question though:
If I start a game as japanese in WOP against the AI, will the British, French, Chinese and Australians be neutral, or is it a war against all allies straight from the beginning? Maybe you know that :)

Hello and thanks very much for reading [:)]. Against the AI, all other nations are against the Japs from the start apart from the Soviets. The AI is not particularly good or aggressive if I recall correctly. I never found I got more than a few months in against the AI because I got bored - I much prefer a human player. A question on the general thread would probably get you better answers from players with more experience than me.

R-4 is sailing from PH to patrol off Nagasaki before heading to Canton. I figure I ought to make Martin defend his home waters as any dilution of forces at the front will help me when he moves on to his next phase of conquest.

1st Cav is at Rabaul and will head for Soerabaya by a route South of New Guinea. The 25,000 ton supply convoy will follow. I am concentrating my Naval Force, so I am considering abandoning China to concentrate my LCUs in Java. Martin seems to have left China, but I do not know what his long term intentions are... I am moving some AKs to Canton just in case. I will bring out 2 base forces regardless and will start to move aircraft to Java from SOPAC and the West Coast.

De Zeven Provincien is now 50/56.

R-19 is out of ammo so will head for Canton. S-14 will move from Takao to the Pescadores and S-6 will head there from Okinawa. I am considering a big surge deployment to Manila to intercept his transports when they come to pick up his army for the next phase...

In China, 16th and 17th Chinese Corps, together with an HQ are moving out of reserve at Kaifeng. They will head for Nanchang and are planning for Nanking.
