Bicycle platoons do not move!?

Post by Crossroads »

I've worked on an EF scenario (set for June 1944, in case there is a need to pinpoint the proper platoon files)...

I've got Finnish Jaeger platoons mounted on bicycles, but upon testing the scenario the damn units are incapable of moving at all.

I found an old thread at Blitz forums where someone complained the bicycle platoon stopped moving after 8 or 9 turns, the thread is a couple of years old...

What's going on, have I missed something?

Edit: added a German "Radfahr-Sicherungskompanie 38" to scenario, no problem with them?

Edit2: discussion took off at Blitz. Here's the URL: http://www.theblitz.org/message_boards/ ... ?tid=44256

It appears Finnish Jaeger have a new code in there platoon file to allow them both bicycle AND ski movement.

I guess it's not working correctly...

Does the regular Finnish Bicycle Platoon unit have the same problem?
They also have the same code...

Thanks,

it seems to be a transport issue. Finnish jaegers, bicycle platoons or German Schutzen on Finnish or Hungarian bikes do not move, but move on German bikes?

Pls see the Blitz thread for a test case.

Thanks, Petri

You're right...it is a transport issue..

Finnish Bicycles are coded as Unit Type = Rail Vehicle!

Interesting. In the old Talonsoft games, bicycles were coded 1024. But in Matrix, the German bikes are now 512 ( same as motorcycles) and rail cars are 1024. I guess not all countries' units got changed.

That explains it, I accidentally found out they can travel quite a distance on railroad :)

Any chance for a fix? I spend quite some time on a scenario featuring reinforcements arriving on cycles... The Hungarian cycles have the same issue, btw. The unit files are encrypted, aren't they?

I can be reached at krazykat.theblitz at gmail dot com.

A patched unit file would really make my day!

yes, unfortunately the files are encrypted...

it would take about 30 seconds to fix, but I've never attempted to crack the encryption...

I think you may have to wait for Jason to return.

OK, thanks Chad.

At least the problem is now located. I do not know whether the fix will have to wait for 1.05 to be released. That could be still some time away it seems. I may just need to replace every Finnish bicycle with a German one while waiting.

Bicycles are very beneficial mainly in particular fields and infantry needs to be more mobile. It's not always a choice to stick to roadways.

Bicycles are, moreover, a huge and voluminous item of equipment with no combat utility. Putting infantry in motorcycles may take them a little bit quicker to fight – though I don't think it is simple to ride a bike carrying all the equipment an infantryman requires, but the arms they serve are probably completely out – but when they reach it those bikes will be a burden instantly. And these warriors are unprotected when riding motorcycles - you cannot shoot and cycle at the same time.
