Breitenfeld, 1631

In 1631, during the Thirty Years War, Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus experienced success employing combined arms mobile tactics against the established Spanish Tercio system.

I've only played it a few times so its still early but it looks to be bug free. Its ok for Pbem and solitaire both sides. Takes about 60-90 minutes to play. It can be had at [currently not available]

Some things to watch out for that we are generally not used to seeing - movement doesn't cost any supply or readiness, no ZOC costs and no digging in. Odd stuff but works well in recreating this 1976 classic boardgame from SPI.

And the Saxons still suck.

Yes, it was one of five, along with Nordlingen, Rocroi, Freiburg and Lutzen. I never had the other four, I only had Breitenfeld when I got the S&T magazine that it was included in.

'Gud Är Mitt Harnesk!', or in English: 'Old Board Games Never Die!'

War gaming history preserved

Edit: This calls for a proper fanfare;

"Finska Rytteriets Marsch i trettioåriga kriget"

Our homeland lies in the snows of the North;
the hearth of the home glowing warm and strong
Our hand has grown sure with playing the sword
and honour and pure faith lies in our record

We watered our snorting horse in the Neva's bath;
like in a wedding march they went across the Vistula flood
Our swords they did bring to the Rhineland's coast
and from the river Danube they drank the Emperor's toast!

Awesome video ... drums and trumpets on horseback !

I had the Livgard Co. in the first oob, but it didn't make the last cut [no room for a 1-1 combat unit].

Added Mr. Rodia's excellent ancient sounds and adjusted the PO's a little. The link in post #1 is still good.

Great Job!
I just pulled out my S&T 55, and I am reading reading Al Nofti's accompanying article.
I am looking forward to giving it a go.
I am also looking forward to any other conversions!
cheers

Thread resurrection time!

Have you had a chance to convert your Breitenfeld and Lützen scenarios to TOAW IV?

Really looking forward toward the new version.
