Panzerfausts don't fire sometimes.

Here's the scene: Russian tanks move along side a German infantry hex. Some infantry fire panzerfausts (PF) during op fire. Later that turn, during the German firing phase, I have some German infantry who have fired the PF and some who have not yet fired this turn.

The problem - I can't tell the difference.

It appears that if I pick a unit who has fired (and has shots left, ie 4,3,4,2) and attempt to fire at a tank using the C key to fire only the PF, he does not fire but the tank returns fire anyway - usually killing him.

Can a unit fire the PF more than once per turn? If yes, why doesn't it fire sometimes.
Why does the target fire back on a "did not fire" event like this?

Also, why do Inf-AT act like Infantry when attacking from range 1. for example, Panzerschreck assaults a sherman with its StGr 24/EiGr 39s and fails, wheras a shot from the 88mm PzSchreck would have toasted the Sherman? same diff with USMC Inf AT vs japanese pillboxes/caves.

I was told an alternative way of attacking is to right click on the unit and turn off all the weapons apart from the AT one and attack like that! Not sure that it works tho as I haven't tried yet.

I think it is a bug, sometimes shooting with
gun choice is not working for me to . I think that mentioned in patch 2.0.when patch
2.0 comes, then it is working.

I got this advice when I asked for a non-assault option for units adjacent to one another. Tried it last night many times. Never once worked. Even turned off all the weapons I didn't want fired...didn't work. Just added a boatload of suppression to my "firing" unit.

There are morale checks involved with firing. Sometimes a unit will fail a check and not fire.

The, "act like inf and assault at 1 range" is annoying. In the patch I believe that the "W" key will work to select weapons to fire so this should work for direct fire concerns. If this happens during the OF phase, the AT unit will probably still close assault.

OK, maybe just a bit faded.

Tommy, I had a similar problems with bazookas in the Pvt. Ryan scenario. I then ran a bunch of tests and while AT-teams will fire all their weapons quite nicely some unit types will not use their 3rd or 4th weapon during normal fire phases, but only when they assault. Also the number of men in the team seemed to play a part.

The firing sequence has bugs though and I think some may be fixed soon. I think most range 1 HE thingys like small Panzerfausts, molotovs and satchel charges are impossible to use against some target types except in assault.

Assault: maybe that was the difference. A unit only gets one assault per turn, right? If they assaulted in the OP fire phase, they can't assault during the direct fire phase. If the panzerfaust is an "assault weapon", it won't fire again that turn, even with shots left.

Wild Bill - can you give us a marker of some type to indicate that the unit has assaulted this turn and assaults are no longer available?

Actually a unit can assault several times per turn. If it has failed an assault it generally gets 10+ points of suppression. If you manage to rally it, below 10 I think, you can assault again provided the unit has shots left.

If they succeed in an assault they don't get extra suppression, or perhaps a point or two for green troops.

As long as they are "ready" they can keep trying assaults until they get pinned.

Note that troops "in cover" get a bonus assaulting.

A bit of uncertainty in using special AT weapons is intentional in the system. THe view is you are the Btn or Regt commander so you are not in complete control of the actions of every man on the battlefield.

It always struck me as very silly to have people assaulting things with Pz-Fausts, Bazookas, etc. The whole point of those weapons is that the infantry now has stand-off capability, and doesn't have to actually rush the vehicle, which is often suicidal. How do you assault with a bazooka anyway? Stand on the engine deck and fire between your feet? Doesn't sound like a really good idea to me.

Ummmm....but we ARE in control Image. We move them, shoot them, do everything but feed them...we can even choose which weapons they fire with. Kinda goes against that grain to have intentional uncertainties. Especially if it only applies to AT weapons and not ALL weapons.

Oh, I don't know. That's a positively good move in Quake.

OK, you can stop hitting me now.
