Since the Steel Panther Modern Warfare game is possible(Just a big hassle)
The complete recoding of SPWAW to cover 1950-2010.

How many of us would be willing to pony up dough to PAY Matrix to go back and recode this game?

I know Matrix can do it,but it's got to be worth thier time to code it.

Time=Money

count me in.

Under one condition....there would have to be a black hawk down scenario...

Ya id pay $50.00 easily.
Hell...if one person not even part of matrix recoded it id pay them for it.

I imagine we'd have to raise sufficent funds to raise Matrix's interest. Yes I'm sure other people would be able to code it but I know Matrix would do it justice. Proof of that is SPWAW.
And considering thats thier work, makes sense to me that they should produce SPMW.

Stay on topic? Why should we ever want to do that? Oh this is not the AOW forum. Here it's more or less taken for granted that we will.

I would pay too. maybe Matrix should do what other compamies do...start a product wait list. In otherwords people fork up plastic in advance and when a certain amount is reached the game goes into deveopment and people get charged.

$$$$$$

Who here, or collectively can put up 20 grand? That's right, nobody. But on the subject of WW1/Boer War battles, it would seem that quite extensive OOB/AI would have to be done as well. I did a little toying around and made a very very late, almost after-ww1 colonial scenario. I'm actually working on a ww1 scenario at the moment, am having to make movements for defenderes 0 though, which doesn't allow for falling back to rear trenches, and they don't wish to use artillery. Oh well. . .

I for one would be interested. But will not hold my breath, as from what I have read the Matrix team(s) are concentrating on other projects.

Yes, would pay $50 too... But:
1) Is that method possible? For Steel Panthers, the game is free because some problems with the rights on the original game, I think. Probably the same with a modern version, no?
2) on the other hand is it not the time now for Combat Leader ? Modern module(s) of CL will be better than a modern version of SPWAW, I think.

Assuming this might interest someone....

This link will take you to a genuine commercial copy of guess what Steel Panthers 2, the actual game.

http://www.cdaccess.com/html/pc/steelp2.htm

Now personally I don't expect it to be up to the standard of SPWaW 7.1 But does that matter, no.

There are lots of games out there that are not the latest thing and still good.

I ordered a copy of SP2 from these people. Why?, cause I missed it when it was originally marketed (and I still want it).

I intend to play it, and I intend to enjoy it, just as much as my copy of SP3 Brigade combat. Why?, because a good game remains a good game. Regardless if it has all the latest bells and whistles.

My next target after I clear off SP2 from my plate is likely Panzer General II. And then maybe Allied General (which are also available at that link).

Noooooooow it would be nice if Matrix had money coming out of it's ears, and more time than it needs to maximise every wargame ever invented. But I am plenty amused they maximised Steel Panthers (the original version).

Best way I can say thanks is to lay in wait and give Combat Leader a try I guess. Should be a hoot. And if it flies it will logcally inspire all the add ons that Steel Panthers did.

So guys, don't lament the past. Steel Panthers Modern will never be more than what it is now. A tired old DOS game. Play it as it is. And reserve your spot in line for your Modern angle Combat Leader (it will appear, unless the world comes to an end first).

To do Boer War battles in SPWAW you have to hack the OOBs. Nobody gets radios except the headquarters (Heliograph don't you know.) Nearly all artillery has to be direct fire except the Long Toms and the 4.7 in naval guns. Accuracy for artillery has to be cut down. And you get one or two Maxim guns per battalion or commando.

CL is a year away, After that who knows how long it will take for a modern eaxpansion to appear.
And if CL flops like the mega campaigns did then we will never see a modern version of anything.

What do you mean that the MegaCampaings flop? Did they not sell enough copies?

Posted: Fri May 31, 2002 10:21 pm

No they, didn't flop. MCNA sold out from Matrix and are very scarse even from other distributors. I think that term is harsh. I don't have total numbers but by no means would it be considered a flop.

Lord....I knew id piss off someone saying that

Flop was a bit harsh but a few months ago matrix said they didnt sell the MC's as well as they thought they would (welcome to the PC games industry)

Sorry about that.
But the fact is that wargames simply arnt popular and there is a real chance matrix is taking in making something completly new.
I for one am glad to see they are trying something new at all

:D I am glad to hear that! I know how hard everybody, starting from Will Bill, have worked on those projects.

 Now, guys, don't badmouth Matrix, they have done a lot for us. Their free software have kept our sanity when we needed to distract our minds and seek glory in the battle field.
