Campaign Slaughter

I thought I would try a small WWII campaign, so I started in July 1943. Medium
My forces: less than 2000 points.
2 Panther tanks
4 Tiger 1Es
1 FJ platoon
1 Engineer platoon
1 SS MG section
1 Wofram SP rocket section
and an ammo truck

My first battle was a meeting engagement vs the Brits in Sicily.
I got all of 92 points to spend - a scout platoon and a section of 251/1s

They attacked with 3 rifle companies
13 Churchill IV
3 Churchil III
11 Valentine III-V
3 Valentine I-II
6 Stuart III-IV
3 Stuart V
16 Crusader III
6 Sherman II
4 Wolverine
4 Daimler AC
4 75 mm GMC
4 75 mm how
and a 4.5 inch troop

Needless to say, it wasn't much of a fight.
How does the campaign driver come up with 8400 points for the Brits in a meeting engagement?
I don't get it.

I had a similiar thing happen in a 1939 campaign start. I had 2 infantry companies and a platoon of PZ-IVc, the Poles had over 8000 points to spend. You can buy a lot of Poles for 8000 points...

Check your Preference settings for the Battle points. Make sure you don't have them set to disparate amounts. Also, check to see that you haven't selected "Hard Battle x2"" in the settings for your campaign battle; this will give the AI 2x the starting points.

Definitely medium.

It's been my understanding for several years now that the computer side points are based on the points size of my actual force. Otherwise, a couple years down the road, the computer will be badly outgunned.

This wouldn't be an "enhanced" feature?

theredcimmerian,

FlashFyre is correct. There are also two other possibilities to consider as well. If you have AI Advantage ON, then the computer gets more points to spend. Also, I'm not sure what version of the game you are playing, but if you are playing SPWAW version 8.40 then I think the default "historical ratings" for the British is 65 and for the Germans it is 70. This means that the British also get 25% more battle points to spend than you, due to the way battle points are calculated with True Troop ON.

I have been playing for many years and I always play with AI Advantage ON, and Hard Battle (x2) because it gives me more targets to kill. Once you have played enough battles, then you will start to see that the computer AI is very very very predictable in the way it always maneuvers its units. And once you see that, then you can easily outmaneuver and set up ambushes and kill zones that the computer AI will always blunder into, giving you easy kills. Once you get the hang of it, your 4 Tigers and 2 Panthers alone will each easily be able to get 10+ kills per battle.

Hang in there. Turn AI Advantage OFF and set your battle difficulty to Medium. Then study how the computer AI always moves its units. The computer AI is stupid. You are smart. You will figure it out and prevail. I have no doubt.

I'm playing 8.403 enhanced.
AI is off, difficulty is medium.

I did have the points level at 8000.  But this was never a problem in the past.  I've had it set at that level for quite a while.  Since the computer force size is based on the point value of mine, this should not be a problem.
Yes, I agree that the AI is a dummy, but when all 66 enemy tanks see you at the same time, it doesn't matter that they are (mostly) crummy British tanks and you have Tigers.  Hit a Tiger enough times, it will eventually pop.

I was messing around, looking at several later period force combinations and possibly there was some garbage left over in memory somewhere.
I will re-boot and try again.

theredcimmerian,

I currently have a thread running in the AAR/DAR sub-forum on a Long Campaign I am currently playing.  Check out the "Group Andrews (ANZAC Long Campaign)" thread.

Or, if you prefer, post a picture of a screenshot of your preferences and I can play a demonstration battle using your force against a computer AI opponent using AI Advantage ON and Hard Battle (x2) for you and I'll post screenshots of the battle for you to watch along as I play.

I have Enhanced FV.1 Mod installed on my D drive, and I have Enhanced PBEM/Long Campaign Mod installed on my C drive, so I can play using whichever mod is more suitable.

The computer's force size is only based on your if you set its Purchase Points on XXX in preferences. If it was set at 8000, the computer will buy 8000 worth of equipment, regardless of what you buy.
