Ok, so it's not a Betty.... but it's still pretty darn easy. I just thought it was a neat photo...
You may Google when ready, Gridley....

That is a cool photo! I'm not sure which (Lex, Sara), but the island configuration has 1930's written all over it.

Umm.... that's a Yorktown. It has an open bow, and no 8" turrets. Those biplanes are really cool. Probably Grumman F3Fs or Curtiss Helldivers I would think.

It's not THE Yorktown but the photo was taken in the 1930s -- I'm not exactly sure what year. (1936? 38?) I thought it was pretty cool because you see so many wartime pics of the flattops... those biplanes really do stand out!

You only fail if you try...[:'(]
Trying to indentify ships in photos sure gives an understanding to the poor reporting and identification done during the war. We feck up photo idents. They had to do it from deck or thousands of feet in the air, all while being shot at. How many times did the IJN sink Sara and Pennsy?[:D]

CV 6...seen the photos. Can't mistake a Yorktown class. Hornet was out as she was not completed until after biplanes were a part of naval history.

No matter how much you would wish otherwise, our CV's never flew Stringbags.[:D]

Bahahahaha.... I dunno, I'd take a stringbag over a devastator any day.

Give it some really thick cockpit armor and I'd agree. Canvas doesn't care about bullets, which is both good and bad.[:D]

I cheated. I was thinking that it might be the Ranger, but found the same photograph on the navy's historical website (I was looking for info on when the Ranger was commissioned). It's the Enterprise CV-6 in 1938. Sorry for cheating...

There were still a number of biplanes in USN carrier service in Hornet's day. Hornet herself carried SBC-4's.

Congrats to all who picked Enterprise (CV-6). And it doesn't matter if you found it through the Navy Historical page... how do you think I came across it?[:D]
Ready, Mr. Scott. Two to beam up.
