26 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 27 Dec (Tokyo/Manila)

The night turn began with continuing landings at Butuan, Mindinao - 66 casualties - this is where the air support unit from Cagayan retreated and we are hunting it down. CLAA Yasoshima then bombarded, causing 5 hits (not really good) and no casualties to the enemy. Mines were encountered (a surprise) but not hit - and 5 more casualties to beach defenses later.

The four old Furutaka CA and 3 DD engaged and sank AK Sarangami NW of Brunei - she had 176 troops on board.

CA Nachi and CA Ashigara and 5 DD bombarded Jolo. 47 casualties, 1 gun lost (good) and 9 hits (bad because we must fix them after we take the place).

Landings continue at Molokai. Mines were encountered but not hit - 157 CD shots were fired but missed. 49 casualties, 1 gun lost and 1 vehicle lost. 17 more shots later but not hits, 20 casualties and 1 gun lost to beach defenses.

The day turn began with attacks on Puching China: 6 resource hits.

18 Ki-41s swept Kuala Lumpur - but enemy air units had withdrawn.

A JAAF strike on the ROC 49th Field Army caused 4 casualties.
Another on the ROC 12th Field Army was ineffective.
Yet another on the 12th caused 16 casualties.

20 Betty's out of Truk caused 5 casualties and 1 vehicle lost to the Nauru Industry unit.

7 Ki-48s and 7 Ki-49s caused 15 casualties and 1 gun lost to a RCT of the 24th Division on Molokai.

6 Ki-21s put six 50 kg bombs into AK Antonio North of Borneo.

The CA Nachi SAG bombarded Jolo again - 18 casualties, 17 other hits.

Japanese ground assault at Jolo was completely ineffective and there were no casualties.

Japanese ground assault at Nauru Island achieved 1:1 odds and caused 16 casualties and 1 vehicle lost.

Japanese ground assault at Molokai failed to achieve odds, but losses were even, at 15 casualties - the Allies also lost 2 guns.

Japanese ground assault at Chengchow failed to achieve odds, but did get lopsided losses: 155 Japanese casualties, 7 guns and 2 vehicles lost to 303 Allied casualties and 4 guns lost.

Japanese ground assault captured Linguyan, Luzon.

There should have been a similar capture of Bessein Burma - but it fell to "occupation" by the AI before an assault could happen. Still, it went over to Japan,

Japanese bombardment of Kuala Lumpur caused 14 casualties, 1 gun lost and 1 vehicle lost.

Allied bombardment at Midway caused 8 casualties and 1 gun lost.

Allied bombardment at Molokai was ineffective.

Japanese airborne assault failed to capture Lae. 1:1 odds were achieved. 11 casualties and 2 guns lost. A naval force will land tomorrow and more paras will land as well.

Japanese ground assault failed to achieve odds at Butuan Mindinao. Only 122 troops in a fragment attacked - most of the 2nd SNLF failed to attack at all. No casualties to either side.

27 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 28 Dec (Tokyo/Manila)

The night turn began with continuing landings at Molokai. 20 CD shots fired, no hits. 132 casualties to beach defenses.
Later 30 more shots were fired for no hits. 97 casualties and 1 gun lost to beach defenses.
Mines encountered but not hit.

Continuing landings at Midway. 36 CD shots fired for no hits. 50 casualties and 1 vehicle lost to beach defenses.
Later 76 shots fired for 4 hits on AK Kusuyama Maru. Badly damaged but no casualties = all troops landed.
Mines encountered but not hit.

CA Nachi and CA Ashigara led 5 DD into Cebu to sink USN PT units 42/43/44. This was deliberate - they were spotted by recon yesterday.

CA Maya and 3 DD bombarded Lae. 71 casualties and 1 gun lost, 5 runway hits.

DE Shiokaze detected but did not hit mines at Brunei.

RN sub Trusty attacked MSW units NE of Borneo, but missed.

6 USN DD attacked and missed I-4 at San Diego.

27 Dec Air Turn and Post Air Turn

The day turn began with an attack on Pucheng by JAAF - 5 resource hits. 78 resource centers are shown as damaged - this must soon stop to be a good supply source hex.

13 Ki-41s swept Kuala Lumpur - but no CAP to engage.

10 Zeros swept Johore Bahru. 3 Buffalos met on CAP - but no casualties. The Zeros are tired - so sent to Saigon to rest.
32 more Zeros out of Indochina followed up - shot down 2 of the Buffalos. These too are now tired - also sent to Saigon to rest.

6 ROCAF SB-2s failed to harm the 18th Independent Mixed Brigade

A JAAF attack on the ROC 12th Field Army by Ki-48s caused 36 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Another by Ki-30s caused exactly the same outcome!
Yet another on the Manchu 67th Field Army caused 20 casualties.

3 Ki-48s and 3 Ki-49s attacked the 117th Base Force on Molokai - but failed to harm it.
6 Ki-48s and 4 Ki-49s then caused 52 casualties, 1 gun lost and 1 vehicle lost to the 24th Division RCT in the same location.

15 Nells out of Rabaul caused 18 casualties and 1 gun lost to the New Guinea Volunteer Regiment at Lae.

The same 6 DD AS TF which missed I-4 during the previous night hit her 3 times in a day attack at San Diego. Her ability to make Kwajalein before flooding out is in doubt.

Ground assault by 1100 men at Midway failed to achieve odds. 61 casualties and 3 guns lost compared to 20 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost. This SNLF battalion is demoralized - but a reserve regiment supported by an engineer regiment (battalion) will have a go tomorrow.

Ground assault at Butuan Mindinao captured the hex. But all the effort - and the risk of mine damage - has us withdrawing from the area. These troops are needed to capture Jolo. And we only caused 11 Allied casualties - losing 24 Japanese today alone to get them. Let them starve and catch diseases for a while. It is only the remnant of a small air base force.

Japanese artillery bombardment at Jolo was ineffective.

Vientianne fell to an unplanned attack by an air support unit - it crossed a river and shock attack is mandatory. Vientianne was undefended. It is a nice air base and a river port.

Ground assault captured Nauru Island - 9 Japanese casualties. 2:1 odds. 1796 Allied casualties and 409 "vehicles" lost. [These must be tiny cars on the tramway for moving guano]

Two Chinese Field Armies moved into Sinyang Central China yesterday. We ejected them today. 27 000 Japanese achieved 11:11 odds vs 14 000 Chinese. 319 Japanese casualties and 7 guns lost. 329 Chinese casualties and 19 guns lost.

Japanese artillery bombardment at Molokai was ineffective.

44 000 Japanese attacked 26 000 Chinese at Pucheng and failed to achieve odds. 1348 casualties and 19 guns lost. 277 Chinese casualties and 7 guns lost. This place is impossible to supply properly - but it must fall sooner or later. Many field armies are taking refuge here.

A small naval langing force supported by artillery engaged at Baguio - but he moved in troops - and it failed. Meanwhile 65th Brigade moved in - but it is too weak to attack - and too strong to eject - so it will sit here - preventing supply generation. Almost no locations remain feeding the 100,000 Allied troops on Luzon.

Artillery bombardment at Kuala Lumpur caused 16 Allied casualties and 1 gun lost.

Allied bombardment at Midway and also at Molokai was ineffective.

Ground assault captured Lae. 572 paras forced 651 native troops to retreat to Wau. 3:1 odds. 15 Japanese casualties and 10 Allied casualties. A naval landing force has arrived and begun landings - and the ships that brought it will take the Paras back to Rabaul.
Another naval para battalion is at Hollandia - with trasnsports - ready for operations.

28 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 29 Dec (Tokyo/Manila)

The night turn began with continuing landings at Molokai. 10 casualties to beach defenses.
Later in the night 24 CD shots. No hits. 126 casualties.

Landings continue at Midway. 115 CD shots fired - 4 hits on AK Lima Maru. 72 casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost.
Later in the night 83 more CD shots - 5 hits on AK Shinano Maru - and mines encountered but not hit. 50 casualties.

A MSW TF cleared mines at HK.

I-122 put 10 shells (4 heavy) into AK Vyner Brooke East of Palembang.

28 Dec Air Turn and Post Air Turn

The day turn began with recon of Magwe Burma by a Blenheim I.

39 Ki-48s caused 7 resource hits at Pucheng, China.
24 more caused 4 resource hits.

27 Ki-21s caused 12 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Second Burma Brigade.

1 Ki-48 was lost and another damaged attacking a RCT of the 24th Division on Molokai - but no casualties were inflicted.

7 P-43s missed a CLAA and a DD at Tagbilaran [Bihol Island, Visayas, the Philippines). 2 Petes on CAP were ineffective.

USN sub Seal torpedoed (with two fish) TK Moji Maru in the East China Sea.

CA Aoba and CA Haguro led 6 DD in bobmarding Jolo: 50 casualties, 19 other hits.

6300 Japanese troops attacked 3200 Americans on Midway = Fort Level 3 - 0:1 odds - 335 Japanese casualties, 22 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost. IJA Third Tank Company got wiped out later due to attrition rolls. 55 Allied casualties, 3 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost.

A thousand Japanese support troops attacked 1400 Allies on Jolo: no odds - 91 Japanese casualties and 2 guns lost. An SNLF is inbound for Jolo.

15 000 Japanese attacked 4100 Americans on mountainous Molokai - because there is infantry here they are effective. 148 casualties and 6 guns lost. 107 American casualties, 5 guns lost and 1 vehicle lost. Each day we get stronger. We will land a lot of troops tomorrow and re engage in two days.

Artillery at Pucheng China caused 8 Allied casualties. Most of the resources are now disabled. We will try a general attack again tomorrow.

42 000 Japanese attacked 50 000 Allies at KL. No odds. 265 Japanese casualties, 22 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost 100 Allied casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost. What is working here is that he put two brigades of real troops into the hex - this combines with the inherant supply here and all the squads of the support units and supply sinks to make a difficult target.

Allied bombardment at Midway and Molokai was ineffective.

This was a bad day for ground assaults. But better days are coming. No battle is in doubt. He grows weaker in each location each day.

29 Dec 1941 (Hawaii) 30 Dec (Tokyo/Manila)

The night turn began with minesweeping of Butuan Mindinao - clearing the field entirely.

Ro-41 shelled, torpedoed and sank AK Toratja at Singapore.

CA Aoba and CA Haguro led 6 DD bombarding Jolo for the last time - retiring to Brunei to refuel and rearm.
47 casualties.

Large landings occurred at Molokai - a substantial part of a division going ashore (but being distupted by the process). Opposed by mines (no hits) and 28 CD shots (4 hits on CL Sendai - which however suffered only one ops point in damage). 109 casualties to beach defenses.

29 Dec Air Turn and Post Air Turn

The day turn began with two JAAF attacks on Pucheng China causing a total of 24 resource hits.
Another JAAF attack caused 36 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 9th Field Army.
IJA ground bombardment at Pucheng caused 20 Chinese casualties.

15 Ki-21s caused 18 casualties to the 2nd Burma Brigade at Moulmein.

3 B-10s put 3 bombs into AK Meiko Maru at Canton. We have moved in a squadron of fighters to cover ships inbound with supplies.

Ro-41 torpedoed and sank K Vyner Brooke at Singapore.

An SNLF captured Kona the big island. 5:1 odds. 37 Japanese casualties and 1 gun lost. 2036 American casualties and 11 guns lost.

IJA ground bombardment at KL caused 44 Allied casualties and 1 gun lost.

USMC bombardment at Midway caused 50 Japanese casualties.

Both IJA and US Army ground bombardment at Molokai was ineffective.

We have set up for a major attack with massive air support on Jahore Bahru for tomorrow. We will begin ground bombardment of Manila ahead of play by a month tomorrow. We will continue landing a division on Molokai - but a brigade will try to capture the island tomorrow without waiting for the division to recover from demoralization.

Dec 30, 1941 (Hawaii) New Year's Eve (Far East)

The night turn began with significant activity due to major landings at Molokai - much of the IJA 6th Division is conducting landings - supporting a major brigade combat team already ashore and the Imperial Guards Brigades - both demi brigades of which are also ashore. Because there is a regiment of real combat soldiers here - and because it is mountains - this is a tough fight. Both sides are short of supplies - but only we can send in more. Mines and CD guns scored 4 hits in 3 ships - CL Nagara and CL Sendai took one each - and AP Ryujo Maru took two (reports don't say which caliber shell or which is a mine). 153 troop casualties on the AP and to beach defenses. 11 Allied casualties to counerbattery fire (I assume). 107 CD shots were fired - these guys are still actively defending.

The massive minefield at HK continues to be cleared by a 3 unit MSW TF.

Landings at Jolo involved 105 casualties to beach defenses.

Pre dawn landings had an LCVP unit hitting a mine - 7 casualties - 14 more casualties to beach defenses - and 21 more casualties to CD guns which fired 9 more shots, didn't hit any ships, but did cause casualties.

Another attack caused 26 casualties to the 12th Field Army.
Another attack caused 37 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 50th Guerilla Regiment on the South coast near Hainan Island.
Another caused 15 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Manchu 67th Field Army.
Two more on the Red 27th Guerilla Regiment in North China caused 0 and 35 casualties respectively.

13 SB-2s and 6 IL-4C of ROCAF caused 12 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 18th Independent Mixed Brigade.

9 Blenheims caused 12 casualties and 1 gun lost to the 18th (Motorized) Division in Malaya. 1 bomber damaged.

72 JAAF bombers of 4 types caused 54 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Indian Army 12th Brigade (reinforced with 278 battery) in Malaya. 4 bombers were damaged.
64 Ki-21s followed up immediately, causing 28 more casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
33 Bettys and Nells came in right after that - causing 6 more casualties. This raid was higher - to avoid any medium AA in the hex.

55 JAAF light bombers of 2 types - escorted by 25 Ki-27s - hit the Second Burma Brigade at moulmein causing 20 casualties. 1 bomber lost, 1 damaged by AAMG fire.

3 Ki-48s caused 2 casualties to the Indian Army 44th Brigade in Malaya.
6 more caused 36 casualties, 4 guns lost and 1 vehicle lost to the Indian Army 9th Division Field Artillery Regiment.

9 Ki-48s caused 33 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Philippine Constabulary 3rd Regiment on Jolo. This unit began at Zamboanga and only part of it got to Jolo - interrupted by IJN ship attacks on the transport operation.

9 Ki-48s and 9 Ki-49s caused 38 casualties, 1 gun lost and 2 vehicles lost to the RCT of the US Army 24th Division on Molokai.

6 Philippine Air Force P-43s missed a CLAA and an AK at Jolo. 2 Petes on CAP were ineffective.
5 of them came back to attack CA Ashigara - which shot one of them down.

6 Ki-21s out of Brunei missed AVD Sirius at the narrows of Borneo and Celebes.

30 Dec Post Air Turn

DD Kagero - returning to Kwajalein to repair operations damage - detected and attacked - but missed - USN sub Catchalot.

CA Nachi and CA Ashigara led CLAA Yasoshima and 5 DD bombarding Jolo: 19 hits but no casualties to ground defenders (nuts).

At the tip of the spear, 5th Division - heavily reinforced by a tank brigade, heavy artillery regiment and a light AA unit, attacked Johore Bahru. 2:1 odds, fortifications reduced from 2 to 1 - 93 Japanese casualties and 9 guns lost - 58 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost.

20 000 men on Molokai attacked - about half by bombardment - the other half by ground assault. Still 0:1 odds vs only 4000 defenders - about half of which are support elements. 8 Allied casualties and 1 gun lost. No Japanese casualties: they are getting weak.

Japanese bombardment at Manila caused 27 casualties and 4 guns lost. We are eating up their supplies and attritting them by bombardment. Soon we will add air bombardment to the mix (when AAA is reduced enough). Only after that dare we attack - he is using bastion defense - amost everything is in Manila.

Ground bombardment at Kuala Lumpur caused 19 Allied casualties and 1 gun lost.

Ground assault of the 50th Guerilla Regiment in South China achieved 23:1 odds and caused 16 casualties. The unit retreated. Before the unit took casualties it was down to 299 men.
Ground assault on a Guerilla Regiment on a rail LOC in North China achieved 71:1 odds and caused 66 casualties and 2 guns lost. The unit retreated. 57 Japanese casualties and 2 guns lost - and the LOC is cleared.

Allied bombardment at Molokai was ineffective.

1896 troops did a shock attack on 1789 troops at Jolo. Fortifications reduced to zero. 114 Japanese casualties and 2 guns lost. For reasons unclear this report appears twice.

New Years Eve 1941 (Hawaii) New Year's Day 1942 (Far East)

The night turn began with continuing landings at Jolo - 8 Japanese casualties. This op has turned out badly - a second SNLF has landed - and by the end of the day both were wholly combat ineffective - all because he landed some Philippine Constabulary - which didn't even all make it. So we are sending the ships to get a third SNLF.

Ro-41 shelled - but missed with torpedoes - AK van Twist at Singapore.

TF 184 encountered mines and much CD gun resistence at Molokai - landing the balance of 6th Division. 366 CD shots fired. 15 hits on 7 ships. 1 AK and 1 AP on fire. 218 Japanese casualties and 2 vehicles lost. 48 Allied casualties and 2 vehicles lost.

USS Trusty managed to miss an AK near Borneo. 2 CLAA with DC missed her in turn.

New Year's Eve Air Turn and Post Air Turn

The day turn began with a JAAF raid on Pucheng China - 8 resource hits.

12 Me-109s swept Jahore Bahru - but no planes on CAP to fight.

7 ROCAF SB-2s failed to harm the First Reserve Regiment on the Indochina border.

19 Ki-30s caused 48 casualties and 2 guns lost to the ROC 88th Field Army.
2 JAAF raids caused 2 and 0 casualties to the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment in North China.
2 more caused 0 and 7 casualties to the Red 27th Guerilla Regiment in the same area.
Yet another failed to harm the ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment.

30 Army Ki-47 Kates, 6 Ki-48s, 25 Ki-32s and 12 Ju-88s caused 20 casualties to the Indian Army 12th Brigade at Jahore Bahru.
30 Ki-21s came in next causing 21 casualties and 1 gun lost.

40 JAAF bombers of 2 types failed to harm the Second Burma Brigade. 16 Ki-27s escorted.

7 Ki-48s (escorted by 14 Ki-27s) caused 18 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Indian Army 44th Brigade at KL.

27 Ki-27s caused 4 casualties to the remnant of the RAF No 2 Forward Air Station at Three Pagoda's Pass on the border of Burma and Thailand.

USS Swordfish missed an AK - and was missed in turn by four escorts - not far from Jolo.

27 000 combined arms troops (including the best motorized division, an armor brigade, an artillery unit and an AA unit) attacked 11 000 Allies at the tip of the spear at Jahore Bahru. 1 to 1 odds Fort Level 1. Fortifications reduced to 0. 123 Japanese casualties, 7 guns lost, 2 vehicles lost. 42 Allied casualties. Attacking units not demoralized so we reinforce and attack again tomorrow.

1600 IJN troops attacked 1800 Allies on Jolo - automatic shock attack due to landings - 393 Japanese casualties and 5 guns lost - NO Allied losses.

17000 men attacked on Molokai - the badly cut up Imperial Guards Brigade and the 6th Division. 6:1 odds and the 3 units there surrendered. 22 casualties. 2890 Allied casualties, 113 guns lost, 48 vehicles lost.

Japanese ground bombardment at Manila caused 30 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost.

43 000 Japanese attacked 50 000 defenders at KL - 0:1 odds - 109 casualties and 9 guns lost compared to 153 ALLIED casualties and 5 guns lost. The position seems to be weakening. We have left a retreat path so it will fall more easily. We will wipe them out one hex South of KL where there is no supply sink or supply depot.

Undefended Victoria Point fell to ground assault which came overland.

New Years Day Air Turn and Post Air Turn

The day turn began with a JAAF attack on Pucheng China - 11 resource hits.

6 SB-2s failed to harm the First Reserve Regiment in South China.

A JAAF attack on the ROC 12th Field Army caused 62 casualties and 2 guns lost.
Another on the ROC 85th Field Army caused 34 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Two on the Red 15th Guerilla Regiment were ineffective.
Another on the ROC 27th Guerilla Regiment caused 13 casualties and 1 gun lost.
Two more on the ROC 52nd Guerilla Regiment caused 11 and zero casualties, respectively.

16 Ki-21s caused 11 casualties and 1 gun lost to the Indian Army 12th Brigade in Malaya.
40 Bettys and Nells caused 46 casualties to the same unit.

Major Snafu: 24 Ki-51s put 12 small bombs into 3 Soviet Merchant Marine AKs near Vladivostok. This caused an immediate note of apology by FM Togo - and an angry reply by FM Molotov. The unit was range restricted so as not to permit a repeat - and no actions were taken along the long border - not even defensive ones.

USN sub Pampano torpedoed CL Naka at Midway. She fired at CL Natori and CA Takao - but one salvo missed and the other failed to detonate. Very fine shooting by Pamapno. She was not counterattacked at all.

26666 Japanese troops in a combined arms force (HQ, the best infantry division, an armor brigade, an arty unit and an AA unit) attacked 11131 Allies at Jahore Bahru - the tip of the spear. 4:1 odds. 296 Japanese casualties, 11 guns lost, 4 vehicles lost. 74 Allied casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost. The city fell and the Allied units retreated into a pocket to the East instead of into Singapore. The Penninsula is now divided with three major pockets of Allied troops - Kuala Lumpur (6 units) - Mersing (8 units) - Singapore (20 units). We will reduce them in that order - saving Singapore until it has attritted due to supply reasons - and we will help it along with bombardment. But first - KL - which we are bombing tomorrow in force - and will attack when disruption subsides and additional troops arrive to make it more likely to succeed. Units at KL can retreat - so it will be a two stage fight.

6153 troops (no longer supply depleted) attacked 3192 Allied troops and contractors at Midway (who are probably supply depleted). Mandatory shock attack and Fort Level 3 contributed to 0:1 odds: 484 Japanese casualties, 29 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost. 32 Allied casualties and 2 guns lost. Another landing is several days off - with small numbers of additional troops and more supplies. They will meanwhile attrit due to lack of supplies - and probably because they bombard (wasting supplies and achieving nothing).

One hex East of Wuchow - on the main RR LOC - a Japanese division supported by a HQ unit (18 000 strong) attacked a Chinese Field Army (6600 strong) - driving it from the area - and cutting the main rail LOC feeding supplies to Wuchow. 360 Japanese casualties and 7 guns lost. 210 Chinese casualties and 6 guns lost.

Japanese ground bombardment at Manila caused 49 casualties and 1 gun lost.

5400 Japanese troops in elements of 3 units which mostly airlifted into the country attacked 2800 men in a weak brigade (which had been bombarded for days) at Moulmein. 12:1 odds - the position was evacated. 52 Japanese casualties, 1 gun lost. 18 Allied casualties, 1 gun lost.
Moulmein is the key to the campaign - a major airfield and supply source - and we have messed up the RR LOC in central Burma already - so the defense should collapse fast now.

Ground assault at Clark in Central Luzon failed miserably. It revealed 16 000 defenders - too much for the RCT of 2363 attacking. But this position no longer produces supplies - and the assault element will rotate out in favor of two fresh ones. It is a rare malaria free hex - and there are no mountains (as at Baguio to its North) - so we will keep pounding here until it falls. Then we will reduce Manila. Then Bataan. Then finally Baguio. Only bataan produces any supplies now - we are in all the other hexes - so his units will attrit rapidly now. 186 Japanese casualties, 7 guns lost. 19 Allied casualties.

Ground bombardment at Kuala Lumpur caused 22 Allied casualties, 1 gun lost.

Allied bombardment at Midway was ineffective.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11A vs Chicken of the Sea: diplomatic crisis with the USSR

Post by el cid again »

General Togo,

Comrade Stalin expresses his concern with ongoing acts of war against Russian shipping in the far east. Rather than retaliate in kind we are acting diplomatically to increase cooperation with our American allies. Comrade Stalin and emissary Harry Hopkins have reached an agreement in principle that in the event of a major Japanese attack on the Soviet Union, we would allow American planes and pilots to operate from our Far East bases. We do not want to wage war on another front, but if necessary we will wage war without mercy.

Foreign Secretary Molotov

RE: RHSEBO Test 11A vs Chicken of the Sea: diplomatic crisis with the USSR

Minister Molotov:

This is a grave threat. In view of the previous diplomatic note informing you of the incident even before it was known generally to have happened, taking responsibility for it, and apologizing for it;

and in view that no changes were made to non-offending Japanese forces posture - in spite of possible retaliation even defensive fighter cover was not flown - no units moved forward - and the offending unit was initially forbidden to operate within 100 km of Soviet territory -

to which we will now add the offending unit will be removed from forward basing - and replaced with nothing - and we will consider similar measures elsewhere - which are not possible to reciprocate because in much of the Soviet Far East the Russian position lacks depth and must base forward -

It is distressing to think we have to contemplate an offensive vs the USSR. Advise Comrade Stalin that, if he does not guarantee American bombers will never use Soviet bases near Japan, we will have to seize control of them - without waiting for the Red Army to build up enough to prevent such an operation. That is, the threat must be withdrawn - as a matter of strategic security. Japan is - as a whole - as lacking in strategic depth as the USSR is along the Trans Siberian RR - and strategic necessity looks the same from either point of view. We do not wish to threaten Soviet Security - and have taken active measures to make it clear we do not - and will not. But we cannot tolerate a threat greater than the USSR itself can be so close to our industrial and population bases. Manchukuo, Korea and Japan are the heart of the Empire - and if the nearby base complex at Vladivostok is a threat - it will be occupied - in spite of the horrible cost involved. Lets not go that way.

Sid,

I had hoped that Molokai would hold out longer. Give a medal to the 6th Amphibious Div commander. As for my carriers, they are supporting Operation Shark, my current strategic plan. If that becomes infeasible they will participate in my fall back plan, Operation Blowfish. Your Hawaiian campaign really slows down any response by the US forces and really puts a strain on logistics. It is much, much tougher than operating from Pearl Harbor.

Overall I am extremely impressed with the improvements RHS has brought to WITP. I grew frustrated with so many aspects of the game I gave it up a couple of years ago, but last December I got a new computer and decided to load up WITP. When I went looking at mods I discovered RHS and even then it was vast improvement. Now it is clear that you have made immense progress towards making RHS have a much more realistic feel in so many areas. Your empirical approach to getting statistically reasonable outcomes has really paid off. Excellent work.

Gen. Togo,
Comrade Stalin expresses his satisfaction with Japanese measures to prevent future occurrences of this unfortunate incident. Our merchant fleet movements have been cancelled for now until tensions die down and we can establish a better way to communicate.

Our agreement with the Americans is only to be triggered in the event of a Japanese invasion of the Soviet Union. We have made clear our desire to remain neutral in this conflict and no American forces will operate from the Soviet Union against Japan unless such as invasion occurs. Our warning was intended to remind Japan that such an invasion would have serious consequences.

Comrade Stalin has asked our commanders in the Far East to reduce border deployments as well, but many local commanders tell us that such movements may be impossible until the weather improves in March.
