I think Oleg is convinced I have a sizeable force behind the big hill. He has started using chemical weapons to flush me out... [X(]

You can see that sometimes the gas is rather persistant, and it will force my troops to move to more hospitable locations.

In this shot you see my mech infantry has moved back out of some gas (which did not stay long) and my helicopters have found me some targets just over the hill. Using the helicopters here will hopefully also convince Oleg that this is the main axis of my attack. Troops are still moving up behind the ridge... where I really want to bring the attack in. The trick will be to engage them at advantage, which I still won't know how to do until I see more of the area. It will mean moving the heli unit around a bit to see what shakes loose.

16 turns left
turn 8 resolved

Bumped into something in the north. He saw me, I didn't see it. Sounded like tanks. Lost a couple of mech infantry. That area is now slated for a bombardment.

Losses to the unit circled. Fire came from the hill at the yellow circle...

My HQ also was shelled this turn. I had neglected to move it for a few turns, and with all the orders I have been broadcasting Oleg has zeroed in... Time to move, and continue to move each turn.

My HQ escaping danger at the bottom of the map, the mech unit prior to taking hits at the top. The mech unit had started scouting forward, and was obviously spotted moving.

I am trying to keep more of the map in each screenshot so you can get a better idea of what is happening. This shot shows my helicopters plotted to advance to where I last spotted Oleg's forces, and move off to the west and then back south. Hopefully I will get in some shots, and see a bit more. I have plotted 3 waypoints for this in assault mode expecting that they will engage.

Oleg's helos also made an appearance near my hurt mech infantry in the north, but disappeared before I could get a screenshot of them.

OW

You always pay for bad planning, and stupidity in this game. I lost the entire company. That didn't have to happen. Oleg was in position, and got lucky. I hate it when he gets lucky. But I should have had a coordinated attack on that position and I didn't. I did survive an airstrike, and it was on the units on the ridge, so he knows they are there...

And now for the second half of the bad plan. My company survived the first contact but got chewed up on the run out... end result, loss of another entire company. My helicopters did manage to inflict some minor casualties before expending all their ammo. Back to rest/refit so I can use them again.... I can only hope that Oleg's forces are also almost out of ammo considering they have torn up more than two companies worth of my troops in two turns. [:@]

Ahhh, finally something goes my way. And I planned it! [8D]

oops, and I forgot to add it is turn 11

My two mixed mech companies arrive at the edge of the woods AT THE SAME TIME and find some US troops moving.
This will take a few posts to show...

And even more US forces... notice the first one is a little smaller than the previous pic.

And more! Those are the units I knew were in the area. Nice to see them all. Note the reduction in size of the second spotted US unit. But also the reduction in size of my forces. That's ok, I don't mind trading. It's the one-sided stuff I hate.

Oleg took close to 50% casualties this turn in forces engaged... I took about 25%.... I like that. let's do it some more.

But he is also on the move after destroying my forces behind the hill to the SW of the map. Will have to make sure he doesn't surprise me the same way.

Turn 12
I must have annoyed him. He is starting to gas me again. [:D]

Although perhaps he is trying to provoke me to nuke him. If I thought I could catch the majority of his forces with it, I would nuke him with mine in the area too... we'll see how desperate I get.

His helos are getting into the act, and I can't seem to hit them [:@]

Time to leave. Next turn (after the command delay of 1 turn for this order) I will be moving south again. I could have gone faster with a less safe move order. I went with assault since I will probably run into him again heading South. Some of my mortar units are starting to take counter-battery fire, so definitely time to shift locations. They had been assigned as direct support, to no apparent avail. I am moving the mech units in the South up slightly to meet them, and close on the already hurt US forces.

How is the immersion factor? It looks great going by the AAR. What are the sound effects like?

I quite like the sound effects. Sometimes, when you can't see what's coming you can hear it. Not the best intel to plan a defence by, but better than nothing.

Turn 14

Not much new, his helos ganged up on my two mech inf. units. Not to mention all his artillery and lots more chemical weapons.... by the end of the turn his helos had fled toward the rear. Hopefully out of ammo.

Message traffic is picking up. It is making me nervous about concentrating for an attack. The central sector (currently being fought over) will be key I think. So I am moving more up for a final push; but sector 1 is too many turns away to be reached this game...

By the message levels I think Oleg is on the move.... nearer the start of the game, he was barely even registering; now he is much closer to the same levels as me, and I know I am moving a lot.

Turn 14

I shot down 2 helicopters (1 unit)

Are they ever a pain. I even forgot to take a screenshot as I was busy spinning in my chair and screaming YAAAA! The cat doesn't like me, and hopefully Oleg likes me even less. [:D]

I have better concentration now, and will have to wait out while some units rest and reload.
