We've seen how the Americans and Soviets have done, but this is Germany.
Let's find out how the Germans will do.
Good Hunting.

And the tools we expect to use to get the job done.
We are about to see if Blitzkrieg lives on!

The briefing is, well, brief.
Those that have every played a scenario/campaign/operation I've done know that I like expansive background material.
This briefing allows me tremendous latitude but really doesn't tell me much about the forces coming against us.
From this lack of information I'll go with the premise this is a meeting engagement. My favorite kind of action and one the Soviets have trained for more than 40 years to execute against us.
We'll see who has learned the most since our last meeting on the battlefields of Europe!
Good Hunting.

The Operational Map helps to clarify a bit more what is expected of us but I can still do pretty much whatever I like.
Normally, I like to fight.

The plan is to block the Soviet advance and then to attack them in their flank.
Simple.
We'll see how long it lasts before we have to revise it. Probably not long.
Good Hunting.

As the German forces move out there is that old feeling of having a Panzer vibrating under you. To sit in the turret and know you are going into battle against yet another Soviet horde.

I'm not overly fond of this extremely tank heavy force. There is nothing for it until the reserves are activated and they arrive at the front. Until then it will be Panzers vs tanks one more time in Germany!
Good Hunting.

Nice done. I have already read your 2 tutorial battles.
They were very interesting.
Looking for this one with a lot of interest.
2 thumbs up!

Thanks Emilio. Glad to hear that you are finding the actions interesting. Since I had to play the tutorials anyway I thought I'd do mini-AAR's for them.
This one will be different. I'll do a full AAR with it. Hopefully I can do the game justice.
Good Hunting.

2nd Company of 23rd PzBtl is forming the extreme left hand side of the blocking formation. The shaded area shows where the unit has LOS down into the valley.

NATO again launches air strikes at the Soviet column.
Even though the column is spread out the SAM/AAA coverage is good.

We can see the beginnings of the Meeting Engagement as the two forces start to move together.
Hopefully the flank attack force will catch the Soviets by surprise and cause catastrophic damage to their attacking force.
So far the good news is that the Soviets are moving directly toward the blocking force. If their initial hammer blow is strong enough to break the blocking forces then nothing will matter after that point.
The 12 Leo gunners sitting in 1st Company tanks are waiting with sweaty palms and wiping their foreheads with the back of their hands.
Come closer!
Closer still!
When will the Russians open fire? Have they seen us yet?
They must know that someone is around because of the two airstrikes on their column...but a single man with a portable radio could cause that. Do they suspect a battle in those open fields?
Soon we will know the answers to all our questions and even more. The biggest question of all, will I live to see tomorrow's sunrise....
Good Hunting.
