Reload from ports

Post by incredibletwo »

Hi again,

Is it possible for ships to rearm/refuel from ports?

I'm planning a monster scenario which will (hopefully) see ships have to return to port to rearm/refuel.

I was also thinking it might be an idea to include limited drydock-type repairs in a future release. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Thanks :)

I've already included a few platforms in the HUD3 to allow for refuelling and replenishment in "port".

YON-301 Fuel-Oil Barge
YON Fuel-Oil Barge
YFNA-800 Ammo Lighter (4.8k) - 4,800 weapon capacity
YFNA Ammo Lighter (65k) - 65,000 weapon capacity

My intention was to allow scenario designers to place these platforms close to the shore and allow ships to return to "base" and replenish and refuel.

I have also included a selection of facilities for use as Wharves or Piers although they cannot undertake replenishment of surface vessels. We also have an issue with Submarines not having the Refuel and Replenishment flags available to allow for these operations.

Damage repair is a little beyond the scope of Harpoon as it's really a tactical game and is more concerned with actual battles rather than long term voyages or Strategic movements. Convoys in WW2 weren't constantly fighting their way through U-boat attacks. Hence Harpoon, like reality examines and concentrates on the actual combat phases of a prolonged passage of a convoy for example.

If you had a 30 ship convoy making it's way through the Mediterranean and it is attacked say 3 times, the best method of simulating this would be to create three individual scenarios dealing with the combat phases of the convoy's passage. I can't imagine many people want to sit through maybe, two days of nothing happening before they start the next combat phase.

Cheers

Darren

So subs can't rearm then? I thought that was resolved ages ago. I hadn't bothered to check.

I like the idea of those lighters/barges.

As for the other, I think it should be included just in case someone sometime wants to setup a scenario with that capability. It's better to have it and not use it than to want it and not have it. :)

Re-fueling and Replishment (UnRep) is only functional between ships/subs and only in solitaire for ANW.

Ships can re-fuel and re-arm in H3 from land facilities, but this is not possible in ANW.
