Hit 9 on the key pad for Unit display

Post by drrowley »

it would be nice for an alternate keyboard, when one is using a laptop with no key pad.

i do have a numlock, it is just trying to remember to turn it off when trying to use the keyboard.

another nice thing. when starting a new game, under the 'order of battle', it would be nice if there was a link to the data base to look up platforms that i'm not familier with. (unless there is another way that i'm missing. i.e. you can click on groups and get ship platform links, but not aircraft.)

at an airbase there are 5 p3's listed as 1-p3..., 2-p3..., 2-p3....s. just wondering why not listed as just 5-p3...s', they are all outloaded the same. some aircraft at other bases and carriers are listed the same way.
(don't really care, just currious).

mission editor issues:
i feel it would be easier in some respects, like looking thru all unassigned planes, if one could create the mission, then go to nearst airbase/carrier, pick a/the plane(s), then have a mission assignment button.

in the mission's 'assignment menu', it is really annoying to have the list start back up the top of the list after selecting a plane.

i selected a group of '4- planes' and the 'how many?' number assignment box came back with '5' in it. (there was another group of 4 with the same plane type, but the outload was different and no singles of this plane type was present).

also annoying is having to select ref#s to delete a mission. i would prefer just to delete it. have to write down the ref#s listed, then back out of mission editor, find those ref#s, click them, then back to the mission editor. if accidently deleting is issue, do a 'are you sure deleting "missionname"? ' box.
at one time, deleted a mission and it didn't fully delete, mission name was still listed- with 'no' ref#s. still wanted me to enable the ref#s to delete it.
(and what if a ref# gets deleted??)

would also be nice to be able to edited the mission type.... "gee, this mission was supposed to be asw not asuw. find and enable ref#s, delete, start over;
click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click,click....."

A lot of good feedback there. Will definitely look at the bugs reported and consider the feedback for future UI work.

Thanks!

I also use a laptop when playing Harpoon. I know many laptops have a faux numpad that you access with a function key. i.e. Fn+M = 0.

don't know what 'faux numpad' means, but like i said, i can hit a button that toggles part of the keyboard into keypad functions.  it just remembering and a hassle to keep hitting the toggle button. also, the keyboard 'M' key is keypad function '0'.

s'more stuff:
i had setup the game and did a 'save-as' to file 'save.sav'.  at the point where i quit yesterday, i did a quick 'save'.  now, expecting that this works like hce, i loaded 'save.sav' and it wasn't where i left off. doing a search, i found 'bears.sav' in the 'Classic NAVC' folder, which is what i'm playing. i'm i missing the ressume last game button?  where is this explained?

in the game, i had some p3's on asw missions. two of the p3 picked up contacts, almost at the same time. so, p3#1 closes with first unidentfied sub and drops torp when approaching it. then hovers over it dropping bouys and sub is identified as a kilo and i mark it hostile (as i remember reading i have to) and p3#1 drops another torp. when both torps miss, he drops another and that one hits and sub declared sunk.  p3#1 reports no more viable targets and "is returning to mission" (don't remember exact wording). p3#2 closes with second sub and also drops torp going in, then more bouys. when first torp misses, he drops another, miss, drop, miss.... torp#8 hits and contact with 'unkown' is lost.  p3#2 doesn't report anything, but after a few seconds, a plot appears and mission is status window say's 'dropping bouy line'.  but wait, p3#1 is heading in the wrong direction. checking his status, he's 'landing'.

my first concern is, why were they dropping torps on an 'unkown'? yes they were on weapons free, but i thought that targets were not fired on unless marked 'hostile' and in most instances, i have to mark them hostile.

p3#1 with bouys, torps and fuel decides to land, after saying he's returning to mission.  is there away of ordering it to continue mission? right now i'm micro-managing it.
p3#2 with no torps, goes back to working bouys and reports nothing?

another p3, i had it fire 4 harpoons at soviet freighter (big fat target, 0 hits, had f/b with 4 500p bombs hit it, 'small' damage).  now the freighter was in range, but i wonder, if the p3 had to close, would it have gone back to it's mission after firing?

is there a method of changing missions? have some unkown contacts pick'd up by a nimrod on asw mission. would like to change to checkout the contacts, then after what ever happens, go back to asw mission.

also got a report from a nato freighter who reports being hit by 'vampires', but i can't find him.  is there a list somewhere of known or last known positions?

This bug has already been reported:

File-Save uses original scenario name

Once a saved game name was used, the File Save command should have simply used it and overwritten the previous saved game file. Instead, a new Saved game file is created using the original *.SCN name as a prefix and *.SAV suffix. (Originally reported by Morphin)

I'm pretty sure that it is in the manual. The AI treats ALL unknown subsurface contacts as hostile.

No there isn't (unless you unassign the planes from the current mission and re-assign them to another one). Once you assign units to Missions, you are giving control over to the AI to do as best it can.

The only way to know 'last know position' is to approximate it as the Uncertainty Zones grow when you lose contact.
