xp, updated it's self before installing. this is second install attempt. before, game would 'lockup' in a scenario and would have to kill program in task manager. that was almost a year ago.
now. installation had no problems. start the game and decided to do the tutorials. loaded lesson1. moved windows around so i could see them all. clicked on the 'pre' button..... nothing. now nothing works. buttons, moving windows, everything dead. only thing that works is the main window's 'close' button. it shuts down the program. loaded different scenario, same thing, can move windows around until a button, any button, is clicked, then 'dead'. try'd it several times.
for things i do at work, i have framework.net loaded. this wouldn't be conflicting with the c++.net loaded from updates would it?
thanks

A number of questions arise.
Did you try to Uninstall your previous version before re-installing the latest?
Did you update to the latest patch?
I'll assume that the "pre" button is actually the "Pref" button on the map. Haven't heard of any problems with it, though.
You can get the patches:
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/
The other ones you probably need are:
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... 80-Inc.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... 2bComp.zip
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3A ... x-v393.zip
For the least number of problems, grab the
PlayersDB:
Complete Harpoon ANW Library
Just install it in the same manner as you would the game patches.

yes, i had already removed it from the computer from the first time i had problems.
it ended up being 'any' button the game would go dead (freeze).
matrix only shows 5 updates. you list 9?
i'll try reloading it again tonight and send you the results in the reply email.
i take it you don't think the *.nets will conflict?

I'm not a representative of AGSI or Matrix. I'm just a player trying to help you out. You can post your results right here for everyone to see.
Maybe someone else can render assistance over the *.nets files you have. I don't know if they will cause any conflict or not.
The ftp link is an official Matrix link. If you like, you could go and DL/install each and every patch/update, too. I didn't think it was necessary so I only suggested that you use the three that I posted. I don't think that it would hurt to install each and every patch. It just takes more time.

Howdy Daver,
Harpoon uses the VC++2005 Run-time but our commercial product has no .NET components linked to it. As I've not encountered this issue before, I would start to narrow down the possibilities.
First, update to 3.9.3. This should only require one full install and one update as the 3.9.3 update installer is good for 3.7 or later. edit- You should update first to 3.9.0 and then 3.9.3 as the 3.9.4 'hotfix' is only good for 3.9.3. Sorry for the mixup.
Second, use the H3 Launcher (available in the start menu shortcuts under extras as the H3 Configuration Launcher) to disable video and sound. It is possible some codec is interferring. Additionally, as a button click usually causes a 'click' sound, this may be causing the issue. Check the 'Skip the Intro' option available in the H3 Launcher under the Launch H3 MP tab.
Third, let me know how that works.
Thanks,
