Permission Question

Hi All,
This one is mainly aimed at the Matrix guys I suppose. Can some help me with where I stand in regard to rebuild and text editing permissions?

I am proposing the release of a new database "HUD3" Harpoon Users Database 3, shortly and was even considering a beta release with a rebuild of at least the Tutorial scenarios from the game for users to try out possibly even a couple of HUD3 scens?

Who should I approach regarding this? Also we don't seem to get much feedback here regarding the bugs we post. is this the wrong forum? I wish we had one general community forum rather than the multitude that have sprung up in my absence.

Thanks in Advance

Darren Buckley

I think the general rule is that if you modify game text you should notate that to mark it as modified text. This really necessary if you are retaining some text written by someone else or text that came with the original trademark or copyrighted, store bought versions. If you add some modified text entries to existing text you should note that on the entry with your name or user database version. A complete conversion is not really a problem, nobody will claim any copyright infringment as long as you are not profiting somehow by it. Probably not really a big deal and have had no complaints with DB1945 which has fully modified text.

If you have doubts go to ASGI or querie Larry Bond. Larry gave me a greenlight of sorts for DB1945 and limited permission to even use the Harpoon name at the WW2 Yahoo group, to promote our DB, as long as I used that priveledge responsibly.

I would think you are probably okay Bucks, in deciding to modify your text for HUD3. If you want definite permission go to ASGI first. Dale may be able to tell you more too and Ragnar has dealt with this also.

Gents,

I've contacted Don directly and gained the necessary permission to edit what I need to. Thanks for the response.

All the original terms and conditions still apply in regard to text files scen rebuilding etc.

Thanks

Darren
