Reasearch / Multiple worlds

I'm playing my first game ( Enjoying the hell out of it ) and just acheived a Federation with some ugly green guys.
I now have 2 worlds. I was expecting to be able to reasearch 2 different technologies ( 1 on each world ), but whatever technology I selected on 1 world also showed up under the reasearch button for the other. Is this normal?
I could select 1 world to do research and the other to do production though. I haven't tried producing two different items ( one on each world ) yet.
What are the rules for research / production when you own several worlds?
One tech at a time

genehaynes,
Sorry only one tech is researched at a time regardless of how many colonies and worlds you have. Ofcourse the more worlds you have the more scientists, labs, and research centers can be bent towards researching each item. Also it allows you to have a research-heavy world and production-heavy worlds so that research is always happening even while producing things.

ErciLarsen,
Thanks again. So If I understand correctly, if you have several worlds you can produce multiple items ( one per world), but you are limited to researching one tech. at a time ( all worlds participate in the same research effort).
On the subject of raiding / capturing an enemy resource system, in reading the posts on this forum, it doesn't sound like you have to "patrol" the system after it comes out of turmoil as a prerequisite to building a freighter route to the system. I think I have been wasting time and effort because I thought ( mistakenly I'm sure ) you had to patrol the system before you could build the freighter route. Sounds like all I have do the capture the system is to try and build a freighter route before my computer opponents do. Is this correct??
ps: Is it just me, or does the computer seem to grab these systems almost the instant they are available (i.e. Come out of turmoil)?
Keep your eyes peeled!

genehaynes,
Multiple worlds allow multiple production projects but only 1 research project. But multiple worlds researching at the same time helps speed up researching that one project.
You don't have to patrol a system when it is in turmoil and it won't prevent someone else from grabbing it when it comes out of turmoil. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for the systems to come out of turmoil and pause quickly before the AI grabs it. Sometimes the program tells you a system is coming out of turmoil but it usually warns you about poor systems and skips telling you when the good ones come out of turmoil. The AI is pretty quick at grabbing available systems as you have to remember it is controlling multiple races so one of them is bound to see it come out of turmoil and want to build a freighter route to it.:p
