Planet-Bashing

I have found two interesting features when attacking planets in the tutorial. It is not always necessary to invade with ground troops to get control of an undefended enemy colony.
1) When the Klurgu conquered one of my worlds and I chased their fleet off, my former colony was automtically liberated without my having any ground troops with my fleet.
2) When the Qa Qa eliminated one of my colonies by bombardment and colonized the world with their own troops, I sent a fleet to counter-attack which bombarded a bit. Initially I had only 2-3 ships in the attack but, when 5 more showed up, the Qa Qa colony apparently surrendered without my even having an opportunity to bombard that turn. And I hadn't even developed the tech for Marines at that point in the game, or have any troops with my attacking fleet.
