Keeping Population Happy

I've played the beginnings of the complete-patched-upgraded-expanded of Pandora a few times now and, as an "old-time" Civilization player, absent a rule book (!!!) it isn't in the least bit "intuitive" to me how to keep population happy. Would anyone kindly explain this (undocumented, of course) aspect of the game?

Thanks,
Oz

Hey, Oz! Would you be the same Oz from the CFC Civilization III forums?

Wish I could help you with the game rules, unfortunately I haven't played it in a while. It didn't really catch on so well for me. I may fire it up again though now that I'm in the forum. Look forward to seeing you around!

Gary!

Yes, the very said wizard of same I'm delighted to find you here.

Likewise, it hasn't caught on well for me, simply because without "happiness improvements" it seems the only thing to do (from my POV anyway) is build settlers before I really want to.

BTW, I'm only recently back to the CFC forums due to illness; I'm hoping you're still active there ...?

Cheers,
Oz
