suggestions for PDS

Post by hack153 »

when adding plays to the offensive and defensive profile, plays should appear on a check list. you simply mark the plays you want to add and bam, they load into the profile all at once. that would make my life sooo much easier!

inside the defensive profile you should be able to mark more than 1 option. as in you can select 4-5 mins left and 1-3 minutes left for the same profile. this would go for most areas.

also, i can see the point of choosing the offense you want your defense to oppose, but damn it's a lot of work to set up a defensive situation for 10+ different offensive formations for different situations. maybe in option for all in one would be a good addition.

thanks for listening Mr. Winters!

I'd say give the option to mark more than one offensive option as well. It would make it a lot easier to have, say, just one profile to have the PC throw more when behind with under seven minutes to play, instead of creating one Profile for Under One Minute, then another for One To Three Minutes, and yet another for Four To Seven Minutes...

What hack153 said. Thanks, Dave.

The whole playbook creation and management system will be changed for Release 4 anyway. I need to move these core features out of the utilities and into the main game where I can better maintain them. So I'll keep that suggestion in mind for how the new play book situation creation could work.

Thanks

I also would like to see defensive and offensive playbooks separated. That way mix and matching offense and defensive schemes is easier.

david, will past created plays be able to be used in the 4th release?

will there be an easy way to transfer information form one release to the next.

that would be one of the best options ever.

this way you can continue with your league, your rosters and your plays without losing all of your work.

I thought MF did this already, with every new release? [&:] If not[X(][8|], then this would have to be all our Top 5 Wishlist Iteam.[:@]

The game already does this. There is no need to recreate any of your league files. The game will update the structure of the files accordingly.

What it can't do in some cases however is fill in missing data. If 3 weeks of a league has been played, then the user installs a new patch that includes a new statistical category (for example), the game will make the appropriate changes to the database structure, but there's no way for it to create the missing stats in the new category for those played 3 weeks.

It's the same with play data files. The game will update play data files created with PDS1 to meet the PDS2 format, but the PDS2 has new features. The game does its best to set those to reasonable default values, but often it's best to open the older files and edit them, making use of the new features (the completely new man2man coverage functions for example).

More suggestions for new playbook:
Add 4th down situationals so fake plays can be called independently.
Separate first and second half profiles (A MUST)
It would be nice to be able to add all plays from to a playbook by formation

it would be nice if a run/pass option was added to the in-game PB.

like this...

offense
   -run
      -FORMATIONS
          -PLAYS
   -pass
     -FORMATIONS
         -PLAYS
Punt
     -FORMATIONS (including fakes)
          -PLAYS
 Field Goals
  -FORMATIONS (including fakes)
          -PLAYS

any thoughts on this....?  just makes it easier when you know if you want to run or pass....maybe even throw PA in there too....?

There is already a 4th down situation option. The game checks for situations for all downs. If one is specific to 4th down and the remainder of the situation matchs the in-game situation, it will run a play from that group. Otherwise it defaults to a special teams play.

Is that not what you're after?

Yes, the game updates play files as required. It does this moving from PDS v1 to PDS v2 and it should continue doing this going forward. The cavet there is that if I add new features to the play (as an example, custom zone creation is something I'm working on) then the updated play file will be given some default values to fill in the blanks so it still loads and works. But you may need to make some edits to take best advantage of the new feature.

I'm really not sure what you're asking for here. You can currently separate the plays by play category(pass, run, punt, field goal, kick off, etc...) in the playbook.

David, what Hack is asking is if there could be one more step in play calling that selected pass or run prior to selecting the formation.

This can be done now by having a run and pass version of each formation, but it isn't as simple.

marauders, i thought about that, but i was way too deep into my playmaking that i couldn't go back.

for this to work, the computer would have to recognize run/pass in the playmaking mode...which it already does.  it would just take an extra step.  but what do i know about making games?...i'm just a firefighter who plays them.

thanks for listening and asking questions. hope these are good suggestions....

No, I wish I already knew this instead of posting a stupid suggestion. Thanks for correcting me.

also, when setting up situations, you should only be able to choose from plays that are only in that particular playbook.  as it is now, you have to scroll through ALL the plays to get to the ones you want.

the more i use the system, the more suggestions i am getting.

thanks for listening.
