What Ratings Scale do you use?

Post by SittingDuck »

The scale option is new to me (last PS version I had was PS2003). So I was wondering what others use and why they choose it.

I started off with the 8-scale. Odd and I kind of like that, and I am tired of the 10 or 100 concept from most games. Would be cool if we could set the 1-5 scale to A-F (deleting 'E').

I like not precisely knowing what range the player is (as 100 would be too fine).

Changing gears:
Could someone educate me on the accuracy of GM talent evaluation?

Reason I ask is because my last experience was with the Scouting system of PS2003. I gotta admit, I really miss that - quite a lot. So I am wondering if all teams just have a generic concept of talent and how accurate it is. I would hate to think we know exactly what a player's ratings are...

And finally...
My Favorite Oriole (yes, I am a beleagured O's fan, long time weeping now, and when will it end???)
I absolutely loved his complete over-the-top throwing motion. I was privileged to see him pitch during the O's hey-day under Weaver *sigh*

I like the 1-10 scale.  Simple, easy to read/comprehend, easy to judge how much better a player is vs. another one.  It's the ideal scale for me.  The early OOTPs used to have letter grade and it was annoying to me.

I use 1-100. Being new to PureSim that is what I started with because I just wanted to get a feel for the game first. I think I will be moving to 1-20 though. I have used that with other games and like it.

Being new to the game, that is probably a very good idea.

I started with the 1-100 scale, because it reminded me of Front Page Sports Baseball.  I have since switched to 1-10, to make it a little less precise.  I have to think real scouts use some sort of numeric rating system for players, however imprecise it may be.

For historical leagues with real rosters, I'd stick with the 1-100 scale for evaluating trade values.

For a startup draft league, though, I'd lean towards the 1-10 scale. Even using real players, you're creating an alternate universe, so the element of uncertainty should be emphasized.

I prefer the 1-20 scale.

I find it not as arbitrary as 1-100 and not as vague as 1-10.

I've started out with 1-100 to get the feel of what the ratings mean results-wise.  I would expect that as I go along, I will switch to 1-20 and maybe to 1-10 or 1-8 as I get more comfortable with the game.
