Battle of Britain vs other expansions.

These new expansions from X1 Software add dynamic campaigns and nearly three thousand missions between them to your IL2 Sturmovik, Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters. The incredible depth and replayability of these new add-ons will give you a very long lasting experience.

Battle of Britain vs other expansions.

Post by Ron Saueracker »

IL 2 choosing BoB over the South Pacific? I would rather see this title continue with the Forgotten Battles theme and explore the New Guinea and Solomon Islands theatre as opposed to yet another BoB effort. Lots of action here, both land and sea based aircraft operations.

Is there a BoB expansion? I thought it was going to become the next sim relase in 2005. But if you know where to get more expansions, I would like to hear about them.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan your mission properly.

The BoB is a new releasefor2005, but their is the "Ace" expansion just available this week. My point was aSouth Pacific release would be a better fitfor the FB theme thanthe well remembered BoB. Been there, done that ad nauseum.

I’ve just got my copy of ACE and I can tell this is worthy addon to IL2. First of all, Lightings are there now, what a marvelous bird, I didn’t expect this baby to be handled so smoothly, it’s a pleasure just to drive P-38… I went to VEF server then and tried P-38J in 1 vs 2 combat, with two hardcore virpilots on A6M2 Zero… got one in boom’n’zooming pass and unintentionally ramed the second, Zero disintegrated while my Pudgy (I was using McGuire skin) lost only wingtip, landed without any problems and thus confirmed P-38’s kick-a$$-powerhouse status.

Flying Me-163 is also quite interesting, I did not try it in combat though. The first exercise with this craft is, of course, to climb to 50000ft. (takes a couple of seconds) and dive from there, when your reach 1500+ km/h exercise is usually over but it’s very exciting. :)

Looks like AI became smarter, it never was that stupid in IL2, but now AI’s aces can provide some real opposition and if they feel that chances are too low they now prefer to break off, rookies are fleeing right after the first casualty taken, so dog fighting in campaigns should not be bloodbath every time.

However there is one disappointing moment, Pacific map wasn’t enlarged and still very small, the only improvement is the color of water surface, it’s deep blue now and doesn’t remind Baltic sea anymore. I was hoping that Matrix would make Pacific add-on with ACE pack, but unfortunately there is no suitable map.

May be there is a chance to convince Matrix to create new map?
