Fix for the ATI pixilation problem!

Post by BeeDub »

Hi everyone,

I use a Radeon 9700 Pro and I also have the latest catalyst 5.5 drivers. This fix worked for me and I’m sure if you do this procedure correctly, it will work for you as well.

The problem is that when you make a ATI catalyst driver change, not all the old drivers are deleted or overwritten by the new drivers. This causes conflicts within the ATI cards. What you need to do is to remove all the ATI drivers on your hard drive and then re-install the catalyst 5.5 drivers.

I used Driver Cleaner Professional 1.1.
Driver Cleaner is a program which helps you to remove parts of drivers that are left after uninstalling the old drivers. The program is for ATI drivers. First you need to uninstall the drivers from the control panel than reboot and after that run the program. If you really want a good description of what steps you should do than you really need to read the readme file included in the zip file and installation as it contains a detailed description step by step.

Here is a link and this is a free download:

The latest version of Driver Cleaner (1.2) can be downloaded directly from http://www.driverheaven.net.

Just as a sidenote. Such tools also exist for NVIDIA drivers. For example "Nasty File Remover" (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3233.html) .

Generally it´s recommended to first uninstall your old graphic card drivers and then update to latest version. Both NVIDIA and ATI leave a lot of junk on the PC when you simply "update".

Note that Driver Cleaner 1.2 also works on Nvidia drivers and a few others was well.
