Matrix....How about a gameplay video?

Post by evilferretvictim »

I realize CC promised us one that should be out soon....However it's probably going to be heavily edited to try and show us the *good stuff*. Since you guys have the game in hand, I was wondering if somebody could record a couple of minutes in the Geoscape and such..and maybe 5-10 minutes into a battle. No need for any editing to cut out the *boring* stuff...I'd just like to see how it would look when a normal person is playing. Not too sure if you would have to get permission from CC to do this, but I don't see why they would care. Wouldn't even need a high res recording, posting it on something like YouTube would be fine.

Just a suggestion next time one of you is playing/testing the game... I'm sure many people here would appreciate it.

That video is pretty old now, need to see more while waiting these 2wks. Also, I don't want an edited video I'd like to see somebody create a new base, buy units, perhaps shoot down some ships...ect ect.

Pretty good video....Looks like it really is going to be what everybody has been waiting for, good 'ole X-Com :)   Some of the animations look a little clunky...and I believe they went a little overboard with the flamethrower/fire weapons....However it has already meet my expectations for it :)   Too bad the game is doomed to fail sales wise, so damn sad.    :(

What crystal ball did you get that from?...lol...it's hard to say at this point, I would say if it's received well and get's good word of mouth it will do really well. Everyone's been waiting for a close to X-Com type game(ok, not everyone but more then any other game I can think of).

Word of mouth isn't going to be enough to make UFO:ET popular. As much as it sucks, TBS games such as this just don't appeal to the mainstream audience. Silent Storm is the best example of this....It got nominated for GOTY by a lot of publications, but the vast majority of people never even heard about the game. What makes matters worse is how UFO:ET has graphics that are at 8-10yrs outdated already...Right now everybody is into the *pretty graphics* phase...When people pick up the box and look at the back of it, they're going to put it down because of these outdated graphics.

Obviously CC knew from the beginning that their game would only appeal to the die-hard X-Com/old-school TBS fans...However I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of their target audience doesn't even know this game even exists. Hell I found out about the game only about 6 months ago by sheer luck while looking for the progress on all the indie clones. I suppose I shouldn't have said it was doomed to fail, I'm not too sure what kind of sales figures CC expects... I wouldn't expect more than 1-3k the first week of launch though. To me, that's very sad....

Hrm, sounds like 1994 all over again. Well, there are those who do and us who, well, prefer gameplay :)

(although I do like to see my units in action so I can tell whether or not they were properly trained, still, as long as game is IN and graphics are "...yeah, I can see stuff." [:D])

As for the rest, yeah, I think there are some RTS peeps out there that are kinda tired of click click click. Sometimes we gain new converts! [:)]

One good PC Gamer review will get the game thousands of players. If the game is good and those guys get their hands on it, it will do very well.

It's true that a PC Gamer review would definitely help increase sales (Provided the game isn't buggy as hell).... Although normally I doubt they would pick such a small game up, it's practically indie.   Seeing as how the next few months are going to be pretty dead as far as games coming out, I suppose it's possible they might go ahead and review it though.  Even still, I'm guessing it would be in the high 70s at best...   Damn I wish they would have put this on the Silent Storm engine, that would be insane  :(
