A thought?

Post by Stridor »

Given my konvix program can *probably* rescale all the games models, the xml range data tables are exposed, and MM allows hires, it may be possible to essentially duplicate PCK in 1/2 scale (ie 2kmx2km maps). The only downside would be that any data the game itself reports back to you, you would need to double (ie ranges) and that infantry would move twice as fast as they should (as their speed is not currently xml codeable - vehicles are). Oh and of course the install size would double [:D]

Would this be of any interest to anybody?

Of course doing this in the PCK code itself would be far far better, but as a temp measure?

Probably best to wait for the code support for that scale. However, it would be handy to have konvix fix any issues at the current scale (I could then integrate the fixes) as for some reason it won't run for me.

I would make all new maps 2km x 2km right now.  I do.

I think the Infantry already have a bit of a movement advantage. (unlimited quick movment), so making it so they move even faster without tiring probably wouldn't be very high on my list of things.

I was thinking last night about all the things that would need to be scaled when/if the maps were to be 2 km x 2km. The more I thought - the more I decided to stick with 1 km maps for now.

Now, some work on at least partially auto-generating a template for random force placement - that would be nice. But not sure how 'intelligent' it could be, so might need some human interaction.

That's a great idea. I'd be interested in seeing how it worked.

Is the infantry movement rate modable?

Do you mean made with the /hires switch? or with a GM 2km HM capture?

I suspect that if PC3 does bigger maps they won't be compatible at anyrate, but I guess they could be.

I make the map off a 2km x 2km area as per GE. The high res is only needed if some complicated terrain must be modelled. Like a RR embankment. Otherwise more gentle hills don't need the hires.
