Further to the thread about units not moving I seem to have I seem to have an example to report. All the inf companies in the pic report they got new attack orders between 0817hr and 0835hrs yet at 0953 still nothing has happened. Command Delay is set to realistic. One unit from the same bn which reported new attack orders at 0817 was on it's way by 0830 and it is already off that screenshot. Any idea why his 3 buddies seem to be dragging their heels?
I know we need a saved game to investigate this - I have several autosaves between my manual saves at 0805, 0814 and 0900 and several autosaves in between. Would any of these saves identify the issue if there is one?
The HQ is under Rgt control, however the three companies are under direct, individual control and in contact to the north. The three units have defend orders in place, and are attempting to reorg - If this pattern of individual management of companies is widespread the order propagation and response will be very slow overall. It is better to move whole Bn/Regt groups, or several companies under local control of one, and to place any 'guards' under an In-Situ formation/order group to preserve 'bandwidth' for the active units which need rapid responses. Leg infantry tends to be a bit slower, and re-org in contact can be problematic.
You might have inadvertently set some or all to 'fire on' the contact when it was first seen, this will revert the attack order to defend, or you might just be seeing the effect of too much micromanagement and a poor tactical situation.
Any idea what the unit in contact is, how strong, what it's strength & footprint are etc?
I prefer to leave a frontline unit in place, and assault with reserves when possible. This permits the frontline troops to subsequently manoeuvre more freely, and with less interference, and can give them a little opportunity to rest as they form the defacto reserve. Not always possible, but useful when it is.
Thanks Lieste - I think they're still awaiting orders as per normal. I looked back and found I hadn't ordered all to advance at much the same time as I believed I had and moreover hadn't issued any new orders until much later. I mistook the time new orders were logged as acknowledgement of my new attack orders and not as they actually were, the automatic defend orders at the end of a successful attack. I'd had a break from the game overnight which caused me to forget I'd hadn't issued orders until much later. My bad.
