Well I've gotten a game vs the allied AI up to 1/43 and I find it is a lot less fun than version 1 was. The US army for one thing is way too tough. The bump of training to 60 (from 50) really is a killer. Used to be you could bash them to 49 and then mop them up. Your own 50 exp units you could carefully blood to 55 and were safe then. The just reward for being on the attack and having the initiative.
Air combat also seems way off. Used to be the IJN AG started with about 80 exp and could escort and CAP with impunity. Bomber losses now are obscene! The escorts hardly ever stop the CAP. I used to get my AG's up to 90-95 exp. In 3.2 I'm lucky to have a few in the 80's!!
Surface combat seems similar except that engagements seems to last longer and are more often "to the death" than in v1.
Subs: US subs were always damn hard to control. Now it seems almost impossible.

On the plus side I suppose it's more challenging. If that turns your crank. ;)

I had thought that IJA units train to 60 just as U.S., British, and Australian do. (It's just slow.) And when you think about it, nowhere outside the Philippines, Wake, and Guam did Japanese ground troops defeat American units, and that was because they were surrounded. The Japanese may have bloodied them, but when the smoke cleared the Yanks were in possession of the ground.

Try cutting off the Allied supplies, and you'll find U.S. troops don't do as well when they're not at full readiness.

Yep they also train to 60 in 3.2. As for historical felicity. Bah. :) It's supposed to be a game not a history lesson. I say give the Japanese huge unrealistic advantages. <grin>
