WIR Vista 64 Bit (dosbox)

I was able to download the new version of dosbox 11/30/09 and I am using a 64 bit system and Vista. I figured out the use of dosbox after a few minutes and was able to get the game running. The only thing that I feel is different is the graphics being not that crisp. This could be from my 24" lcd monitor and no sound but i remember the game as having no sound. Do you guys have any other suggestions on items I should look out for? I see the war in the east will come out in 8-12 months and I will definitely buy it.
thanks
demy

WIR is based on very loooow grade VGA graphics from when it first came out in the 1980's, 24" monitors were not on the scene. As regards other things to look out for, do you mean new games, or more vintage titles. [:)]

thanks for the reply, i figured it had to do with the monitor being quite large. I noticed a war in the east title coming out and that looks good.
By the way, do you visit any websites that have a lot of dos games?
thanks

'Underdogs' used to be a good site for long lost games from the past, but I think they ran into copy-write problems and had to close. However, I have a collection of old titles of games that I had from the early days on the Atari and PC, some of which are still worth playing {Third Reich, 5th Fleet, Carrier Strike/Force (being re-designed sometime from 2by3), Midway (Peter Turcan version), American Civil War : From Sumter to Appomattox and Western Front (older companion to WIR)}.
All of these games have a level of detail and gameplay that was lost when graphics took over as a priority in game design for many developers. WIR cannot match modern games in eye candy, but it has a depth that is hard to beat. The other old titles have a similar value.
So in answer to your question, I don't know of any good sources for Dos games of this type now, but I have enough saved to keep me going and Matrix titles still keep the faith. Looking forward to the issue of WitE. [:)]

I just started playing WiR on a windows 7 (64Bit) using Dosbox. Works absolute perfect, but i would suggest to not play in fullscreen but in window mode. Its actually a "very small" window on a 22" widescreen LCD, but you can read/see everything like on an old 14" Monitor.
Small hint for using Dosbox with WiR: Set the Cycles (at CPU config) to max instead of auto (cycles=max instead of cycles=auto). If you really want to see more details during execution phase, you can set cycles to something like 5000-10000.

You can get the window to be bigger. Go into the settings file by going to your start menu and looking for the dosbox folder and clicking through to options. It will bring up notepad with the setting file. Look for these settings, they will be near the top and replace with these. The big thing is the "windowresolution" and the "output". fullresolution doesn't matter.
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=600x480
windowresolution=1280x960
output=opengl
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74.map
usescancodes=true
