i guess here's all there is for now...
http://www.2by3games.com/ussr.htm
if you would like to run the current WiR on XP look at some of the previous posts - unfortunatly i can't point to them. in the end, there's a program called DOSBOX you can download which lets you play in xp - not easy to learn (i guess), but if you know how to use DOS then you should be ok!!

I've already tried could not figure it out. I'm content with WITP at the moment.
I heard about Russian Front a few years ago and was disapointed when they called it off.
Bummer
Thanks for the reply,
Kurt

Yeh… Why is it so bloody impossible to make a strategy game similar to WIR, but with North Africa and Western Europe included? Much like Third Rich and World in Flames… Or just a totally renovated WIR… Very sad indeed…

because turn-based games were very 'uncool' for the last 10 years and pretty much every single wargame that has come out in the last 10 years has been in realtime! the only exception i can think of is the Panzer General series, and there were perhaps a very few others i don't remember. but i am confident that mr Grigsby will get to this project sooner than later, even if it will likely take at least 5 years for it to appear on our confusers...

Yeah... I am just one of them old timers...
But I wonder if Mr Grigsby deep down really like the new games. Nobody thought that strategy games would sell, when they all started some 20 years ago, but they did. And I am sure that a good looking new round based game like WIR would sell. We are plenty of hungry gamers waiting…
Today it is simply to many good-graphic-crappy-strategy-games out on the marked. They look good on the screenshot, but thats about it. The new World at War looks pretty ok - for a low level strategy game - but will it come up to the standard of WIR? Will we play it in 15 years time? Nah, I don't think so... [:(]

I for one would certainly buy it!It's kind of funny, guys like myself, with many titles(modern RTS)availible, still trying to get the oldies to run on XP w/dual core cpu's,3 gig ddr2,256 mb vid cards, high res. flatpanels etc.!For myself, I guess its because at first try(WIR,PACwar etc. )wouldn't run,it made me want them even more,or is it just me!?(I DOUBT IT'S JUST ME!)"Today it is simply to many good-graphic-crappy-strategy-games out on the marked. They look good on the screenshot, but thats about it"I couldn't agree with you more!I'm even going without sound(till I figure the sound issue out)

For WIR, there is no sound. I posted this question in this forum a few months ago. For me, DOSBox was a piece of cake, you just mount the c drive to your WIR directory, in my case, the command sequence looks like this:
(from DOSBox command prompt)
mount c e:\progra~1\wir
c:
wir
Just like that, while it loads up just hit <alt><enter> and you get full screen mode. Easy.

I have had absolutely no trouble getting Pacific War or WIR to run on my system. I have Windows XP Professional 5.1.
I love both games, but WIR is faster paced. I just beat my best time as the Soviets on even settings. 8/43 victory. I am so glad they have these out there since I bought both games when they first came out and always enjoyed both.
I wish that SSI and Matrix or however this works would get together and revamp "West Front" the exact same way. I loved that game as well.

Hmmmm.... hgilmer... I just posted about the same thing in a separate thread... would be nice if they redid Western Front and started with the invasion of Poland and went from there (including DAK).
The thing I really liked about Western Front is you could start with the Italian campaign and get into the game at the start without having to bite off anything really big. With WiR, I have never actually played the campaign game.... originally playing the Moscow campaign (Typhoon) until I won that... and started Case Blue.... but one problem is.... after that.... just Bagration (if I am into being a masochist as the Germans) and the campaign game.
Hmmm... of course... Western Front.... as it stands now... I completely played that out.. first the Italian campaign (was fun getting all the nationalities organized... created British corps, etc) until I was totally on top of that... THEN the D-Day campaign... then the whole thing.
Yeah..... if they started at Poland '39 then both sides could have offensive and defensive situations.

you may want to check out Commander: Europe at War... i have not liked a WWII game this much since War in Russia.. great scale and very fun... just enough detail to feel you control things but no micro-management... I highly recommend it..
