DIY modmod: Regiments & Brigades names

Post by Pocus »

This is a preliminary list of 30 or so regiments and brigades names for your scenarios, taken from AGEOD CW2 database.
I have not found yet a way to inject directly a list into a scenario, so you'll have to type them in your own scenario unit lists.
The regiment commanders are partly apocryphal and partly historical, drawn from colonels of this time. The brigades customs names (Maryland Line e.g. or leaders names) should be all historical, but I can't guarantee that either at 100% for leaders names!

Thanks, that gives me a few more names to play with. I've been doing something similar just so I can keep track of my anonymous regiments and brigades.

I find renaming units already on the map with the editor pretty easy, but renaming units in the production queue or available to be produced usually seems to involve removing one unit to create another. Either that or I'm just not getting how it works.

You are right, renaming units already in the Production Queue is more work than simply renaming those in the field.

It seems the ones generated by events will pick up a name if there is one available, right?

Another question, name-availability check is made on a unit category basis? i.e. if Sheridan is a HQ and cav corps name, both can co-exist I guess.

That is correct, the engine will pick a name from the relevant list of its unit type.

Thanks Bill.
Is there a possibility to inject them back easily into 1.03 or they will have to be added through the editor one by one?
Precision: I'm done and running for 1.02, but I don't see myself having the motivation to keep my scenario up to date if I need to input by hand all the names I added, each time there is a patch. :)

Yes, there's an import and export data feature in the Editor, so if you export it from your campaign before the patch comes out/is installed, then you can import it into our latest version.
