Research Limit Mod

All,

I am curious since I can only test so fast if anyone else has adjusted research limits? I updated research to only allow one chit and then reduce research points about 1/4 for each side.

After one game, the results were encouraging. My goal was to help the CSA (AI) hold out past 1862 which they had done in none of my games. The slower pace of research and upgrades apparently aided the CSA. They were able to get a lot more units out, upgrade more consistently and generally felt like a much bigger threat. Both sides hit infantry weapons sometime in mid-late 1862 and level 2 in mid late 1863 which feels like a more "natural" progression of these tek levels.

I've been testing something of this sort over the past few weeks, so a change in this direction is certainly on the cards for the future :D

It also came as a surprise to me to see that the all-powerful Infantry Tech from the SC series was back with 2 chits allowed in SC:CW (and 2 progression levels). It means on a conflict lasting 4 years and some like the ACW that you max out Infantry tech at around half the duration of the war, which feels weird. What the guys have been doing past 1863?
In any case in my internal mod, I have reduced it to one chit at a time. I hope to publish it one day, we will see!

Can you say a bit more about what you mean by reducing research points? Do you mean you reduced the cost of each tech chit by about 1/4? Or do you mean you imposed some limit on the amount of MPPs that each side could spend on research in a given turn?

No each side has a max research points they can allocate. I lowered that figure. The logic being that I didn’t want each side to toss a chit into every technology. The effect is that the same number of technologies are being researched each turn it is just with fewer chits in total.
